Lilies: 2009 Blooms #4

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Neal, you are the king! Thanks for the ID - that's it!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I'm thinking Belamcanda also. Maybe a close-up of the blooms would help.

Steve, you have great gardens there! I've really enjoyed your posts this last week. Same to the rest of the posters here.

Moby, you have proved how important the reverse side of the lily is, especially those downfacers. Its all part of there wonderful appeal.

There still isn't much going on here, Lots of buds, buds, buds. Maybe I'll have something in the next few days. Some of the Asiatic buds are coloring up.

Today I repotted some seedlings including some Western American species. Hope to get them out in the garden this fall and maybe first bloom next year, but more likely another year after that.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

How funny. A neighbor gave me a clump of belacanda, and not being sure where to put it, I popped it into a pot yesterday. Steve, it looks just like your plant. And I will absolutely post a pic.

Bea, I think Tracey is right about the intensity of your colors. Perhaps because the light is less intense, but it's not too dry or hot? I always noticed that garden books from writers in Washington state showed the most opulent plants. I know Oregon has quite a range, but are you in a climate like theirs? You too, Pard?

Ah, Moby, Ariadne. I love that one. I grow it with Rosepoint Lace. I love that you got a photo from the back. Do you find it as sturdy as I do? I've had it for years now, and it's like Old Faithful.

And Pardalinum, I am at the same stage as you, with Asiatics coloring up.

That Ariadne is beautiful! Heck what am I talking about....they all are!!

Edited as the word 'that' does not start with 2 T's! lol

So true!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

This is my first year with Ariadne. Had it several years ago, it was about 18" and then it was gone. I think it got hit with chemicals by the neighbors lawn service.

Edited because I can't seem to spell either. :)

It has been on the coolish side here with lots of overcast or cloudy to partly cloudy days. I'm not complaining, it makes working outside quite comfortable. And my peas and lettuce are doing great!

I'll have to get a Cecil someday. That was my Dad's name. I fell in love with this Plum Peach at first sight this morning. Just yummy!

Looked for the marker of my red lilies this morning..no luck. I will try to look through my files for the invoice. Get back at ya!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Wow!!! So many, many beautiful lilies. I take a few days away from the computer and it takes me an hour or more just to drool through this thread. I still only have the one lily in bloom. :-(

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hang in there Tricia. You know how many lilies I have and only a handful are in bloom. I think we're supposed to see that glowing orb in the sky later this week. Hooray!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I don't know this one's name.

Neal, I love those poppies with your lilies. :)

Thanks, Ticker! I love the contrast in forms.

Lilies are joining the chaos in the butterfly garden now, lots of Poppies in there too.

Do you mulch your gardens? I have tons of oriental poppies and several california poppies, but I can't seem to get those peony poppies you have to grow worth a darn for me... They are beautiful, tho. ;)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I mulch with a lot of leaves in the fall and remove them in spring, then I toss seeds about. During the growing season I add grass clipping mulch after the self sowing plants get some size to them.

This is the rest of the hodge podge butterfly garden.

Well, whatever you are doing it works quite well... :) It is quite a nice garden..

Thanks, Ticker, I'm really enjoying and appreciating the garden this year. We've had an exceptional spring this year :-)

Thanks pixie! There's an element of hodge podge to all my gardens, but that one is chaos, LOL.

Neal - how gorgeous (and I can't grow poppies either).

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Donna, I bet you could grow these big red poppies that we have down here. You want me to save you some seed?? BEV

Such nice combos you guys. Your gardens are beaming ;)

Gorgeous Poppy, Bev! Is that a perennial?

Lots of blooms in the bed where I use all Salsa colors:

We had to put a fence up that dissects the bed this spring to keep the dogs in. I need to find better dog protection for the Lilies on their side, lost several to breakage. This shot shows the Lilies better.
