Lilies: 2009 Blooms #4

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wow you guys!!! All your lilies are just wonderful. I don't think I have anything new open today, but of course, I didn't go look cause it was quite soggy out... :) Tomorrow!

Nice Moby!!! Is it warm there today?

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I like the Starburst and the Doeskin. Of course I love yellow so I like the Novo Cento as well :-)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I like em all. That Doeskin is very intersting though....

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Nope, not warm. It's nice though, 74° yesterday and today. More rain for the next couple days. Not too excited about that but at least I haven't had to water anything. :)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Buggy's 'Startburst' is an amazing lily. Talk about glow!

Pixie, I can't be far behind if you have a bloom. Ya beat me to it in Zone 5a. Lol. 'Mount Grace' is really nice too.

Steve your lilies get me excited about bloom times here. The OTs are such strong specimens and your color choices impeccable ;)

raggedyann cute little blossom there.

Keep those pix coming.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

PYC from Buggycrazy is giving me a bloom. Just planted last fall, it doesn't have many buds, but is a cutie.

I didn't beat you Mags! I CHEATED!!!! Bought it that way. lol

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Sadly when I went out to get a photo of Peach Pixie, I noticed some color breaking on the flowers. Guess I will be digging it up this afternoon. On a happier note, the DELPHINIUM Double Innocence planted next to it made it through a NE winter which doesn't happen very often with any delphinium. It is curling around a white foxglove I received from a DG member that also surprised me by making it through the winter. Guess that's life in the garden!

LoL Pixie. We have to cheat in order to get by, you know?

Look what I did find this morning though ...I was so happy, lily season has officially begun. Though I am by no means an expert photographer, I find these martagons a real challenge.

Very nice!! Those to bloom at the same time? Planted near each other? Must be stunning!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks! I have a few marts. scattered throughout the gardens. This is my first time seeing 'Claude Shride' as the deer nipped all the buds off the day before it would have bloomed last year.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Tracey,

I tried to order martagon and martagon album from OHG but he only had martagon. It's very nice but your pics shows me what I'm missing. Ans speaking of delphiniums, guess what's in bud?

Donna

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Do show me that delphinium when it blooms, will you Donna? I think that delphiniums, with their bloom time and elegance, are a great companion for lilies.....and pink ones, well, you might know I would love that too.

martagon album is very simple and reliable.

Moby...'Doeskin' was a no show in my garden its first year, or at least it looks that way. It looks great in your garden ;)

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Lovely lilies folks!! :) I need to get out and walk about my gardens today. It wouldn't hurt if I weeded them while I was out there. :) LOL

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I really like the "PYC" and "Claude". Such interesting colors!

I was weeding in the hot sun today and looked up and thought this made a pretty picture - so I took one!

Someone at last year's RU gave me the iris-looking plant with the orange flowers - want to say it is "Tritonia" or somehting? All I know is that it has multiplied by leaps and bounds and is getting huge in just a year and a couple months from planting. Far right side of the screen.

Wonderful garden shots Steve. Looks like you are growing a Red Hot Poker or Tritoma. They come in a number of colors.

Tracey,

Absolutely I will send you a pic. It's actually next to the red rose Tess of the D'Ubervilles, and near the pink Oriental Sorbonne - perfect spot that has shelter. I love to send pics to people who are nice enough to give me such beautiful plants.

Steve - the garden just looks so beautiful. I was talking to my cute yard boy about Rococo's permanent location today. I remember that you advised me to let it bloom in the pot (has a very strong second stem).

Such fun! Back to the garden!

Ooooohhhh I love the maratons! The flowers are so delicate looking . I wish I had more space.. More sun. They are so beautiful. Thank God lots of the lilies can be part shade alos. My turks cap is getting really tall. I had to stake it today. Part shade. But it has been there about 8-10 years I bet! Beautiful every year. Soon some white bright orange, pink and more yellows. Wow its going to be nice. Ronna

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

These seemed to bloom early this year, but they are just beautiful and so many blooms this year.

gardenlady ~ Martagons like a little more shade so you might be able to find a spot for them. ;)

Love them Moby. Keep them coming... the North Hybrids are to die for, aren't they? Lovely!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Yes they are!!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

And Beahive, that red is just glowing. You are in the best climate for peonies and lilies. the colors you guys get are just spectacular.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wow wow wow!! You guys and your lilies are just wonderful! Moby, you really got some wonderful lilies popping now. BeaHive, that red does just glow. And Stevie, wow. :) Woo Hoo, they say we might hit 80 this next week... It's only 68 right now.. :) LOL

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks Susan, don't think it's a Poker though; I should have posted a better picture. Looks like a Tritonia, and you can see its relationship to other members of the Iris family by the leaves. I picked it up at last year's IA Roundup

Donna, you will have to let me know how your Rococo does and poct a pic if it blooms!

Thanks Diann :-) I have just a few more OT's and then a handful of Orientals to bloom, and then that will be it. End of June/early July is the end of the road for me for lilies. I remember at my old house my Black Beauties bloomed very late, almost into August, so I'll need to get some of those to extend the bloom season. I did plant some Silk Roads I purchased very late spring this year and maybe I'll get some very late blooms out of them.

I agree; Beahive's red lilies are awesome.....such a deep red. What variety are they?

Thumbnail by SteveIndy
Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Susan, here is a closer picture of tha plant I was referring to. I am pretty sure it is not a poker but would love a positive ID if anyone has ideas.

I like your Ariadne, Moby :-)

Nice pics. Steve, in your landscape shot is that SILK ROAD as the tall lilies behind the daylilies?
Teresa

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Why yes it is Teresa! Thank you :_)

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

BTW Teresa those are only in 2nd year and will get significantly taller - 6-7 ft for Silk Road is not uncommon at all by year 3 or 4.

One more landscape shot. I like the alliums :-)

Glorious shots, Steve! I believe that's Blackberry Lily (Belamcanda chinensis) you have there:
