Lilies: 2009 Blooms #4

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Nilwood, Another similiar colored lily pictured above, there's also a Coral Reef but I can't actually pin down presently the one you inquired off. As a matter of fact, if I don't move really fast right now I'm going to be late to work...

Firetruck is going on my list for this fall. Loks like the perfect red. Ceres is blooming for me.

Ceres and Aphrodite have formed a huge clump. I'm going to tie a string around all the Aphrodite ones while they are blooming and hope I can get the two separtated this fall.

I like that combination! I know what you mean ~ I've got several 'strings' floating around the garden this year.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks for posting the beautiful garden shot, jmorth. So many gorgeous lilies blooming out there in dg land. Mine are still nowhere near blooming; I'm in Lilyfan's boat (pun intended), on a much smaller scale. But not even my martagons have opened yet. I think the Tiger Baby Magnolialover gave me may beat them. And my Zeuses are still just setting buds. It's soooo cold and soooo wet here. The only ones thriving are the hostas and the fish. Good thing we have so many trees around here sucking up some of the water, or we'd be in really bad shape. Hydrangeas are huge this year too.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wickerparker I hear you. None of my lilies are close either. I'm still in early peony stage. I'm having the same experience with hydrangeas - oakleaf, macrophylla and shishiva - enormous.

Diann - SO sad that you are obliged to dig up more earth to put lilies in - really tough LOL!

Lincolnitess, that Ceres Aphrodite combination is electric - where did you get the bulbs?

Steve, I was just watching The Weather Channel and it looks a little scary down there. Will you be OK?

Donna

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Hello all, I am kinda new to the lily scene! LOL. A friend gave a bunch of bulbs last fall! Yippie.. They have blossomed and I was wondering what the difference is between the two. I have a third about to flower they are half way in between the height.. The dark red on is showing up as dark as they really are. The yellow is very bright. The red one is probably about 3 ft tall? Yellow around 2 1/2? Really not to sure just guessing. Of course the buds on the red ones are much bigger. Thanks for the info if any. I was doing some reading what is the virus for the lilies? I know about the hvx for hostas but have never heard of the virus for the lilies? Just never know what will pop up huh? Ronna

Thanks everyone for your concern :-) No major damage here and the lilies are fine :-) We did get about 5 inches of rain however. David was making my new peony bed yesterday before it started and thankfully the soil didn't all wash away.

Wow, I do like Zeus and Ceres as well as Firetruck. An everyone seems to have Red Planet except for me! What a great LA I must get! Great clumps. Susan and jmorth.

Sue, great yard - you have done a terrific job with your landscaping. You have a big expansive yard which I like and I love older neighborhoods. I agree with Tracey that Rosepoint Lace is excellent.

Donna, we'll be fine - got rough this morning and power went off at work but I don't think it did at the house. By this afternoon, even though it was still menacing looking outside, it had generally cleared. I re-staked a few lilies tonight when I got home and all seem to have survived with the exception of a few petals blown off here and there. Did you get anything, Nery?

I think Ticker, Mags and Donna should all be on the verge of lots of lily blooms soon :-)

Wow, Steve, more beautiful lilies, and so healthy looking. v glad you (and they!) made it through okay.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wow, wow, wow Stevie! Look at those lilies!! Yes! It's almost full blown lily time here. I have the asiatic "Stones" blooming and some pixie lilies, but I'm still a bit away from all the other. However, my peony "Garden Treasure" is blooming. :) LOL

Tomah, WI

Gorgeous pix everyone! Can't wait till the lilies start to bloom here. Last year was my first with any newer lilies(well, for me anyway). Every bloom was like Christmas.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks wicker, Diann :-)

Diann, please post your "Garden Treasure" on the peony forum - I have that one on order for this fall and would love to see how it looks in a real garden.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Steve, fantastic, both that all is well and those lilies!!!

Donna

And yes, Steve I'm on the verge of tons of lilies - not nearly as exciting as yours, but healthy, and I'll post.

Oh, isn't that Polkadot Bikini just so neat! :) I might just have to get that one. :) LOL

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Beautiful lillies everyone! That Polkadot Bikini is cute! I think I'm about 3 weeks behind this summer too. Lot of lillies coming up but nothing close to blooming yet. Good thing I have all your pictures to tide me over.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Love that show going on, just be sure to enjoy them ^_^ There is nothing at all like lily season.

I enjoy seeing what you all have chosen for your gardens. There is so much variety out there, you just have to love that too. Lilies are great because they have something for every color palate, pretty much, well, except blue. Lol. The variety of flower forms and colors as well as patterns, continue to amaze me.

Susan, you mass of doubles is really breathtaking. Steve, I can only imagine what your lilies look like in person and nanny, what a cute P.B you have there. The form is quite unusual, as is the pattern.

Keep posting....I'm loving it ;)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Ronna ~ welcome to the love of lilies! Asiatic lilies come in all shapes, sizes and heights. Here is some info about lilies and viruses http://www.mikesbackyardgarden.org/lilypest.html

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Hey Steve, as usual great lilies!

I really don't have a very big yard at all 108 feet by 120 feet, but then I bought a 'large' acre behind the house and 'stole' 80 feet from it, so. . . we are deep and narrow LOL

Once again it is raining, so I can't get out to get pictures of the newest lilies who have opened while I was at work.

jmorth, what a great stand of Red Planet, I look forward to mine surviving long enough to look like that.

nanny_56, Polkadot Bikini is so cute, I have several stems but will get no blooms this year :-(

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Lily season has started in Lisbon!! Yay!

So many beautiful combos and lilies! Im excited to see z5 blooming...Yipppppeeee.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Me too, Pixie!! After the disappointing year with peonies I'm glad to see lilies!! :)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Wow, Ticker, you are off to a great start over there! I'd say you have a great start. Beautiful.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thaks Donna, Tracey, and Sue :-)

Well Sue your lot gives the impression of being very large :-) Ours is deep as well, actually two lots totalling about 210' x 492', but most of my beds are fairly close to the house though I might try one farther out - I want to put a gazebo in the back 40 and put a bed around it - that'll look cool and is my future dream.

Wonderful clumps of Asiatics, Diann. Love your "Stones". I tried that from Van Engelen a few years back and they faded horribly. Looking back I am not sure the ones I had were really "Stones" as the form on yours seems quite different. Yours is beautiful and evenly colored.

Here is Conca d'Or today.
