Lilies: 2009 Blooms #4

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Steve, you guys ok down there?

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi Diann,

We are fine thanks, thanks for checking on us! Had a few small branches down but nothing serious - just lots of rain and wind. We were one of the first areas in the metro area hit but others ended up getting it worse. Plants seem generally OK though I really haven't seen everything in daylight yet.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Good, I worrry about you down there in Tornado Alley...

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Steve, glad you had minimal damage from the storm. It really is true. . . gardeners are eternal optimists. The storms may come and cause havoc in our gardens and we just start looking forward to next year! I'm glad you'll be able to still enjoy this years blooms.

Yes, we have a very high water table here and all this rain sure hasn't lowered it! I was pulling some weeds and 6 feet over from where I was pulling you could listen to the sucking sound when the root came out! I'll see what I can do about a few pictures, not really anything to show so far. Most of my lilies look like first year plants, even my DH asked what was wrong with the little shorties.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

great that you're fine Steve. Don't want no storm, but a couple of inches of rain I would not object to.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I saw the forecast last night for our southern friends, and I'm glad that, with the exception of one lily (Steve's) everything seems OK.

Sue, I'm so sorry to here about your troubles. I know that our Iowa buddies have a had a siege of water for so long now. We'll have a storm and you seem to get three times what we get. I hope that your remaining lilies do well. I am particularly fond of Rosepoint Lace.

So many lilies I've never seen before! All so wonderful. The colors! The shapes! Ones I've only seen in catalogs (STEVE!) We are in bud here, although serious bud. Morth, you are half a zone but WAYYY ahead of me.

Stay dry!

Donna

Now, PLEASE forgive the background.

Isn't she just a beauty though! Rosepoint Lace

No lilies in this bed. . . . . yet! But it sure looks like the perfect setting for some of my marties. One area that IS doing well with all the rain, those moisture hogging maple trees seem to suck up all the excess in this area!

One last picture before I head back out to the weeding (coffee is done).

This is the bed on the north side of the house.

Happy to hear that you made it through the storm Steve. We are really at the mercy of our weather, aren't we? Your lilies are amazing, even through the weather... Glad you Dave and the pups are all good.

llilyfan your lily season has begun and they are beautiful. 'Rosepoint Lace' should have a spot in every garden, don't you think so?

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Beautiful Lilyfan, and I agree with Tracey that RP is one everyone should have.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Who couldn't love Rosepoint Lace. It's a wonderful lily! I have lilies blooming now. My Stones is blooming as are some of the pixies... No pictures yet, tho... I'm off to tour hosta gardens tonight and then it's back to painting the interior of my house.... eventually..

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

wickerparker, here's a reverse view, looking back at Green Goddess from bench area (actually from behind and above bench to the NE corner where Gr Goddess resides.
magnolialover, in response to your observation of bench shot- indeed, sitting thereon is conductive to ponderation of the beauty of nature and the construction of the universe.
donnamack, my records indicate the lily show this year started ahead of year's past...25 varieties have bloomed so far (4 new ones today), 75 to go.

vossner and daltriz5, the Heliopsis 'Lorraine Sunshine' is my first perennial daisy to bloom; amazingly, also one of the last, at season's end to give up the ghost. Incidently, mine appears to come true from seed (self-seeded).

What a glorious picture jmorth.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Very very nice, more pictures please!! :)

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

vossner, the Lollipots in my garden have rivaled crimson p in regards to proliferation potential.
After a heavy rain, pollen added a new color dimension...

Ya know, I know it's an older lily, but don't ya just love Lollypop? It's such a happy looking lily. :) And you have a lovely display of them. :)

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Some of mine washed out a little after these rains too. BEV

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

lilyfan, thanks and here's a clump of the Red Planet (as you noted, they're relatively short but with big blooms).

my map indicates these are Avignon but I'm not sure because the map also indicates there's Avignon in a different part which haven't opened yet and are significantly taller...

Diann,

Hey, first things first here - houses can ALWAYS be painted in winter!!!

Jmorth, I didn't realize that THE SHOW started earlier. I'm probably thrown off by having everything so late. It also probably has to do with the kinds of lilies I grow. My impression, based on buds is that I'm going to have Diann's peony progression - nothing, then all at once.

But your pics are keeping me quite happy.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Bev, we crossposted. Beautiful!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Thankyou Donna Haven't talked to you in a coons age. I go out every day and see a new one blooming. So glad they are staggered. I have about six more kind that are going to surprise me.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Heh heh, I was out looking at my gardens last night. I really do need to think about how tall things are when I plant them.. I've got a ton of short lilies in the back behind my orienpets... Oh well, it just means that this fall I'll have to dig and move them to the front and that requires more turf torn up.. sounds like a winner to me. :) LOL

Don't you just love Tinos? it's a wonderful lily! A very good friend gave me mine and it's a wonderful lily! :)

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Steve, your OT's are inspirational...Firetruck still strong here (came from Buggy).

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I thought there for a min that mine were Marquee but they don't have the freckles.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Ticker, I think Tinos has been a denizen of my garden as long as Lollipot, Grand Cru, and some of the Pixies.
Here is Coral Sunset:
