My seeds were packaged beautifully in a resealable paper packet with pretty art work - made me want to get out in my garden and get to work! I ordered a bittersweet plant with my order this year, and it arrived looking very good. I planted it and it grew for a bit then just mysteriously wilted over and bit the big one! :( I emailed them about it, and they promptly and courteously gave me credit for it! Since I'm already plannign a fall order from them, this will come in handy. Very happy with the company and their business practices. Will continue to be a customer for years to come! |
Positive | phdler (22 reviews) | On Jun 20, 2009, phdler Homer, NY wrote: Not the best packing and shipping (Plants arrived dried out, out of their pots, and in a jumble but only one was in really bad shape - and they promptly replaced it with a healthy plant) Once plants recovered from that, they picked up and seem happy. SIze was as expected - not extraordinary but not sub-par either. I ordered VERY early from them yet the one thing I wanted most was out-of-stock. If they had notified me sooner I might have been able to find a replacement but none were left at other plant sites by the time I got the order and found out. Their customer service is what pushed this rating from a neutral to a positive. If plants are doing well next spring, I would consider ordering from them again, but if it is something I really want, I'd probably look elsewhere. |

I live just outside Chicago and need a "Northern" gardening supply company - Southern/Eastern ones often cater to their customers in their zone or a warmer one. I am truly shocked at some of the negative feedback for this company. |
Neutral | scout_dakota (2 reviews) | On May 29, 2009, scout_dakota Trenton, NJ wrote: I ordered reblooming irises and delphinium last fall. This spring the irises performed well and are thriving. Positive | nygardener2 (12 reviews) | On May 20, 2009, nygardener2 New Hyde Park, NY wrote: Great service and my order looked great. Trees are big at 5-6ft the roses are from weeks roses. The small beries and plants are well loved and full of life. The bulbs are also great. My seeds have 100% germ rate as well. A very happy first timer. A five star rating+++++ |
Positive | markgeer (2 reviews) | On May 20, 2009, markgeer Byron Center, MI wrote: This was my second year of ordering from Jung. Last year I ordered only seeds and some (delicious) "Candy" onion sets that did very well in my Michigan garden. This year I also ordered some berry plants (black raspberries and a blueberry bush. The seeds came promptly (mid-March). The plants and onion sets did not arrive until a month later (mid-April) which was later than I was hoping for the onions, but I was very pleased with the plants. I received four raspberry plants in place of the pack of three I ordered. They were small (about 4 inches) but had swelling buds. They all have nice leaves now. I was really pleased with the blueberry bush. It had multiple shoots up to 18" and swelling buds. It was very well-wrapped in plastic with moist newspaper. It now has beautiful blossoms and leaves. Overall, I'm pleased with Jung Seeds and will likely order from them again. |

I ordered a Helmond Pillar Japanese Barberry - the whole point of this plant is that it grows to 5 ft. while the spread is 2 ft. I received my 4 inch plant today - barely alive. $25.00 and shipping for this JOKE. No wonder they charge before shipment. On May 8, 2009, Jung Seed responded with: "On May 11, 2009 10:10 AM, Jung Seed responded with: I think you may be complaining about the wrong company. I went down and looked at these. There are none smaller than 12 inches. they all have growth and good root systems. The girls that package them said they have not had any smaller than that this year. Or maybe, you have the wrong bare root. People can make mistakes and grab the wrong item. Please call us with your information so we can take care of it, if it is ours. |
Negative | anitar49 (7 reviews) | On May 2, 2009, anitar49 Ridgeley, WV wrote: I've ordered from Jung in previous years and been happy with the shipping and quality and have recommended them to my friends. This year I ordered a goumi plant and wolfberry plant on 2/5/09 and was charged when the order was placed (which I'm OK with). When I received the order the last week of March, it included only the goumi and the packing slip indicated that the wolfberry was backordered. The goumi was healthy, but was only about a 4" plant. (Advertised as a 3 1/2" pot--the pot was bigger than the plant.) I called customer service on 3/31 and was told that the wolfberry would be arriving in a few days and it would ship as soon as it arrived. On 4/6 I checked their website and it listed the wolfberry as no longer available as of 4/1. When I called customer service again on 4/7 I was told that they would not be getting them. I had to ask for a refund. |

My potato tubers came right on time and were healthy and ready to plant, the seeds I've gotten have done well, and the orders are shipped in a reasonable amount of time. Free seed packets included! I'm very happy this year, and will continue to order from Jung in the future. The only suggestion I have is that they increase the selection a little bit (hint?)! |
Positive | Pupula (7 reviews) | On Apr 16, 2009, Pupula Greenwich, CT wrote: I happened upon them by asking my mom where she would buy plants and she told me she liked this nursery in WI, it took her hours to remember the name of it as my mother has an established garden and rarely goes to nurseries any longer, she also gets all my plant divisions and plants I don't like. I am so happy she remembered! After getting their first order everything was healthy and beautiful and grew immediately. So this spring I ordered again. I received a dwarf lilac and an unusual clematis, both are healthy and happy in my garden as I write this. Also I ordered tons of seeds so I am just waiting to plant them but have no fear Jung is great! Timely and beautiful quality. |

Positive | gfm (13 reviews) | On Apr 9, 2009, gfm Melrose, MA wrote: I ordered 2 Paw Paw trees from Jung a couple weeks ago. A couple days after placing the order I realized that I could save some money by purchasing them as a collection rather than individually. I sent customer service an e-mail asking if it would be possible to switch the order. Within two days I had the money credited back to my credit card. I received the order about one week later. The trees were well packed and in excellent health. I especially like the trial seeds they packed with the order. I look forward to ordering from Jung again. |
Negative | mami1 (1 review) | On Apr 1, 2009, mami1 Bloomington, IN wrote: Few years ago, I ordered several fruit bushes and a cherry tree. When the cherry tree died, Jung replaced it, and all plants have been doing well. I am particularly delighted with the cherry tree, I was not able to find anything comparable locally. So when it came to expanding my garden this year, I chose to go back to Jung for more. I ordered a plum tree, top hat potted blueberries, the same currant collection as in the past, and number of other fruit bushes. I have just received my order. Upon the first inspection, the plum tree is nice, but the rest of the bareroot part of order is awful (the potted top hat blueberries arrived earlier and they are as expected). The only one currant that is branched has no roots, the worst of the curants consists of one twig. This is in such a contrast from what I received few years ago that it's hard to believe it is coming from the same company. All other bushes were substandard also. For example, one of the bareroot blueberries is 6in tall and consists of 2 twigs, about 1/16 inch diameter. That can't possibly be a 3yr old plant! Two of my three gooseberries are similar to that, the third not being much better either. On Apr 1, 2009, Jung Seed responded with: "On Apr 2, 2009 12:39 PM, Jung Seed responded with: We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the size of some of the items from your order this year. We continue to use the same vendors as in the past, but growing conditions vary for our suppliers as well they do for home gardeners. The same items you may have purchased two years ago may not be the same size as recieved previously because of this but the plants are still normally very vigorous. |

I've always ordered from pinetree and park seed in the past, but have been getting very poor germination rates from their seeds in recent years (this year is no better). So, I bought more from Jung and less from the others, and I have to say I'm quite satisfied with their seeds, and will be ordering from them from now on.. Please don't go downhill like the others have, Jung. |

Negative | LBracey (1 review) | On Mar 25, 2009, LBracey Nutley, NJ wrote: I ordered two rose bushes from Jung's, on line, on March 11, 2009. As of today, March 25, 2009, they have not arrived, yet I have been charged for them on my most recent credit card bill. Today I called Jung's to discuss this. Customer service was not able to tell me when the items would be shipped to me, so I asked that the order be cancelled, as I do not appreciate being charged for something I never received. The Jung's customer service rep refused to cancel the order, stating something vague about the plants being in a warehouse and it's not possible to cancel my order. So, I have contacted my bank and am disputing the charge. On Mar 25, 2009, Jung Seed responded with: "On Mar 25, 2009 3:00 PM, Jung Seed responded with: We are sorry you did not get the correct answer when you called. Positive | Amita (3 reviews) | On Mar 20, 2009, Amita Richmond, MA wrote: I ordered for the first time this year, on March 6. I was afraid that my order would be delayed because I was so late, but on March 18 I received my seeds. They were packed very well, in a plastic bag inside a small sturdy box. I noticed that one packet was labelled as being "overfilled" because the germination rate was low, and I appreciate that. Three full packets of free seeds were included, even though I had only ordered about $10 worth of seeds. |

I was so pleased with them that I wanted to share the good experience with y'all! Each little onion was plump, and the roots were white with no dead brown ones. Jung had left about three inches or so of green tops on each onion, so I didn't have to worry about where each onion was after it was planted. They are now all lined-up like little soldiers in their garden bed and I just KNOW they are going to do well. Thanks, Jung! |

Although they supplied many diffrent varieties and supplies, I never really use 100 roma tomato seeds. Jung seed did though have great costumer service and fast shipping. But smaller and better priced products would improve my experiance with this company. |

Anytime I have had a problem they always solved it for me or sent me a new plant. They have the most awesome lilacs and send healthy fully rooted plants that survive and thrive, even in our bad clay soil. The only problem I have had is with irises not being true to name, I had ordered 'brides halo' and gotten a blue iris, and a black game cock was not that, it was some sort of silvery blue iris (which I grew to love anyway). But, other than that they have a great company and they really are serious about their service. I just wish they would sell more varieties of own root roses. They took off Paul's Himalayan musk, and I was ready to order it this year. |

The operator was friendly and apologized for not knowing the answers, but said she would pass them on to the horticulturist on staff. When told this, I wrote this off as "information I will never find out". I have *left* messages for the higher ups in the past with Jungs and other companies and never received anything back. I was asked how I prefered the information returned (as email works fastest I was told). I left my email address and really didn't think much of it again. Note from the Garden Watchdog editors:It is the stated policy of the Garden Watchdog that companies can NOT pose as customers in submitting customer feedback to inflate their own rating. The rating, originally positive, was changed from positive to neutral so that it would not affect the overall rating given by customers. |

Now that the frost is on the ground I can take the time to praise Jung on my order. I start a lot of annual plants from seed in my greenhouse, and I expect good germination rates. With Jung I got 100% this year. When you spend over $3 on a packet of 15 seeds, you want 15 plants! and that is exactly what I got. |
Positive | Rhizomes123 (5 reviews) | On Sep 14, 2008, Rhizomes123 Pittsburgh, PA wrote: I received my order today that I placed last week over the internet. All of the Irises are very healthy and I do look forward to planting them tomorrow. I have been ordering from Jungs for over 5 years and still get great service from them. Keep up the good work! On March 31st, 2009, Rhizomes123 added the following: I got the rest of my order this month (mid-March). It consisted of potatoes and onion sets which were on backorder. Later (about 2-days), I got the package of peanuts that were also on backorder. As usual, all of the plant material was received in excellent condition and packaged very well. My only concern is that I did not know where some of my items were and since I start most of my plants from seed, timing is very important. It would be a good idea if Jungs would give the purchaser more information as to when they will be receiving their plant material if and when it is backordered. Maybe a feature can be placed on their website that helps to track purchase orders and to give buyers a general idea of when their items on backorder will be shipped. Another suggestion is to send a postcard or email similar to how the Mailorder Nurseries used to do years ago. Other than this, everything was good. Thanks for the free garden seeds! |
