Horrible customer service!!!

I placed an order for a pear tree and it was shipped on March 7, 2004. Unfortunately the USPS has lost the shipment. USPS suggested I contact Jung. I contacted Jung three times through their customer service email. I never received a reply, not one time. Not even an acknowledgment they received my emails.

It\'s become apparent that if you have a problem with shipment, customer service is Non existent and you will be completely ignored!

Needless to say, I will Never order from Jung again. Pathetic customer service!

I have been a customer of theirs for over 20 years. I ordered a bunch of fruit trees, grapes, and blackberries from them about 20 years ago, and everything grew beautifully (except my 5 apple trees- I have always had trouble with growing apples here & I don’t blame the company because they sent me healthy stock).

In fact, some of the plants are still alive and thriving now! I have a Seckel pear, a Concord grape, and a dwarf Lapins sweet cherry that have been excellent performers in my zone 6b (south central Kansas) garden.

In 2022 I decided to try raising more fruit and ordered their dwarf blueberry special (4 plants) plus Mara des Bois strawberries. The plants are healthy and thriving. The first strawberries are almost ripe, in fact.

I have had some failures from my past orders, namely the butterfly bushes and several perennials. They seemed a bit overpriced for the tiny plug plants I received, many of which arrived dried and dead.

Overall, though, I am very satisfied as a customer and will likely order from them again in the future.

PS- to the folks at Jung’s: please bring back the dwarf Lapins cherry! Mine has borers, and I am probably going to replace her eventually. :(

This year is my first time ordering from Jung Seed and after my 1st order, I came back and have placed 4 more ( $500+ in total) as I was so happy to see the quality of their plants turned out. Been buying mail order fruit trees for the past 3 years, I have ordered from at least 5 different companies and so far, Jung Seed offers real good quality and healthy trees with very reasonable prices, plus free shipping promotion too! On top of that, their selections are plentiful. They offer many interesting varieties that I've been looking for; not just berries and fruit trees but flowers, shrubs, bulbs too. That's why I went overboard and purchased quite a lot, but it's okay as I enjoy doing business with them. Another thing is the customer service is exceptional. I find reaching out for them via Facebook is the fastest way just in case you want to know. Ever since the covid outbreak, all of the famous nurseries seem to skyrocket their products price and charge you a ridiculously high shipping fee. I don't know if Jung Seed increased their price yet but i personally find it still very reasonable and affordable. In a word, I say they are worth checking out. Thank you so much, Jung Seed!

I hardly ever write reviews but I felt I really needed to as I was pleasantly surprised with my order!

My Background: have honeyberry bushes that I've grown from a few inches (cuttings) to mature plants (>5').

Ordered 6 honeyberry (haskap plants) and a bloodwort to get the $100 free ship deal. Was a bit hesitant due to the reviews but was really the only place I could find the new borealis honeyberry series of plants, especially at a pretty good price (<$20 / plant). The plants arrived right in the the middle of their intended ship time (mid - late april) however no shipping notice was rec'd (not a big deal but glad my wife saw them on the porch and they didn't spend a few nights outside). I was very impressed with the condition and packing of the plants. Overall the size of the plants (ground up was about 8" 10 12" with lots of new tender growth that was packaged very carefully as to bend but not break it (actually quite impressed none of the new soft growth was broken!). Honestly 1 leaf didn't fall off when I carefully removed the plants! I've made a few online orders of plants and honestly this was the best packaged order I've ever seen!

Hats of to Jung seed for my 1st order. You deserve every bit of this positive review. Based on my 1st order I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

i wish I could include a picture of both the packaged conditioned of the plants and the plants removed. That would be worth more than my short summary.

Set up and ordered a small seed order. (6 items) I received a confirmation of the order. I looked at my credit card account on the next few days and they had charged my account for the total of the order. After a week i called to get an update on the order( most on line merchants ship in 3-4 days) The robot that answered my call at Jung's told me to call back, they were extremely busy. I called back 4 more times and was told the same thing by the same robot. In between I sent them emails, the first asking for ship date and the last two i asked for a cancellation since they would not respond to emails and phone calls after two weeks. I then contacted my credit card co and disputed the charge.. THEN I got an email stating that my order was in their fulfillment center, blithely told me most of my order would be shipped this week (of the 22nd).
i was upset because they would not communicate and had the nerve to charge me long before the seeds were shipped.

I have instructed the USPS that I will refuse all shipments from Jung Seed.. The Post Office instructed me that when I do receive it, merely return to the town Post office and get the tracking # to prove return to Jung's.

Most years I am very pleased with Jung's products and service, and those of their affiliates: Totally Tomatoes, Shumway, Vermont Bean. This year I had a problem and I'm curious if other gardens had a similar problem.

In 2019 I ordered a package of five kinds of garlic for northern gardens. I was pleased with three: 'German Porcelain', 'Northern White', and 'Musik.' The other two, labeled 'Vietnamese Red' and 'Spanish Roja' did very poorly. As soon as I looked at my order, I saw why. All five kinds were supposed to be hard neck, but the poor performers were soft neck. Soft neck garlic doesn't do well this far north.

I informed Jung of the problem in July, requesting that they send the correct garlic types for planting this fall. I finally bugged them in early October and the next day received an email that said, in part, "This email is in response to an email that you sent to us in July. I do apologize on the delay in answering. After much discussion and checking with our vendors, etc. We have decided that this was a mistake on our part. Unfortunately we are sold out of our hardnecks for the fall season. I have issued you a refund in the amount of $23.38 the price of the garlic plus tax for 1-04843n ½ lb Garlic Spanish Roja and 1-04821n ½ lb Garlic Vietnamese Red."

I understand that mistakes happen. I am not happy that they waited until they were sold out of garlic to inform me that they made a mistake. If I hadn't had years of good experiences with Jung, I would have scored this "Negative."

I wish I could list this as a separate entry but do not see a way.
I used a refund from the poppy roots that did not grow to order some echinacea (cone flower) plants. They were in small pots as described but are very green and healthy looking.
My first order still is negative but this one was positive so I am changing it to neutral.

On November 29th, 2013, bryana changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:

I ordered tulip, crocus and asiatic lily bulbs.

Tall Monarda Offer and Prairie Splendor Echinacea .
All arrived well packaged, Healthy looking average sized plants (the butterfly plants were quite small) the bare roots were decent size.
On June 2nd, 2020, bryana added the following:

Ordered a collection of bare root plants and some seeds.
All the Zinnia seeds germinated and are growing well.
The bare root plants - the Holy Grail Hibiscus, oriental poppy, bleeding hearts were all decent sized - not huge but not too small.
The hardy phlox collection came as two live plants (good) and 6 very small bare roots.
On July 14th, 2020, bryana changed the rating from positive to negative and added the following:

All the bare root plants were planted according to the instructions but only the bleeding hearts grew. All the other plants are dead.
I had to file a dispute with a credit card company to try to get a refund for the plants never sent.

The first time I got bare root plants, I was still shocked despite reading and understanding they would look small or dead. If I were ordering just a couple of maples for a back yard, I would get them locally and live. But, I am planting dozens of trees, including some varieties that just are never available at the local garden center.

Their Customer service did not always delight me initially. However, they stood by their experience and it has worked out well for me.

So far it's been good. This is my first year ordering from Jung, I was looking for a reliable general purpose plant and seed company and decided to give them a try. I ordered a variety of vegetable & flower seeds, onion starts, day lilies, and dahlias, all are growing and appear to be doing well.

On September 2nd, 2010, elfeik added the following:

This was my second year with Jung. So far I have been very happy with their seeds, no complaints with them. The onions from last year did great and 4 out 5 raspberries from this year are doing well. But I have not been thrilled with their flowers, second year on the day lilies and no flowers, 1 plant has grown to decent size, but two other plants are looking bad. Their dahlias are OK, they weren't very expensive, but only 4 of 5 grew and only 3 flowered, so they weren't any bargain. I can't knock them down to neutral, but I probably won't order flowering plants from them in the future.

I ordered some Cone flowers from them late last summer -

Delicious Candy Echinacea 11590 1 $12.95
Fragrant Angel Echinacea 11541 1 $12.95

- barely alive. in pots for over winter, not looking good.

Powwow Wild Berry Echinacea 08762PL 3 $6.45

- VERY root bound had to have been in pot for several years died shortly after arrival

I contacted them about the matter, will adjust rating based on response I receive.

The blackberry lived but the raspberry died the next day - no green left - lots of leaves but dead - tried shadecloth and straw mulch but it did not help. Had horrible heat of about 95F. I called and got replacement - it arrived with mostly dead leaves and has maybe 1 tiny green leaf clinging. I am using mulch and shadecloth on both - it helps in this heat. The shipping time of 4 days (by Post Office at the end) in this heat was probably the problem. So I just ordered same type raspberry from Amazon but bigger with 2 gallon pot and with only 2 days shipping - cost more than twice as much but I really want this plant. If it arrives dead I will ship it back to Amazon. Jung Customer Service was good.

I was going to start looking for spring bulbs and came across the reviews here… This place is HUGE. Clearly people who are happy plant their plants and move on with life. Pretty sure they sell millions of plants every year. It sucks that the people who took the time to give feedback are the people who had something go wrong. If you LOVE Jung and appreciate the incredible quality leave feedback. These negative reviews do not represent the company I have dealt with.

I have been buying from Jung Seed on line for more than ten years. They are awesome! We built a house and started with a blank canvas for gardens, every year we add more flowers. Before the snow is completely gone until a hard frost there is something in bloom from Jung in our yard.

The first time I ordered a bare root plant it was a foreign concept and a leap of faith. We live on water and our giant willow (that blocks a window view of our property) fell. We needed something that would grow fast, can tolerate very wet conditions and eventually replace the willow when the rest of it goes. The tree showed up as a three foot stick with a few buds and some cropped roots. Now five or six years later that is a close to twenty foot beautiful catalpa tree. We buy tulips and lilies and other bulbs from Jung at least every other year. It takes me a year to forget how much work planting a hundred bulbs is and how much it sucks to dig up bulbs that I can’t recall exactly where they are buried. We still have amazing GIANT tulips from the very first time we ordered from Jung that come back every year. AMAZINGLY beautiful and three different very similar varieties and maybe 100 or so bulbs. Everyone that sees them wants to know where they came from. We bring them as cut flowers to friends and everyone who sees them talks about them. I bought tulips at the big hardware store on impulse they all died off or stopped blooming.

One of my favorite flowers has always been peonies. We got an award winning giant yellow with like a pinkish color peony. My only disappointment was it took maybe two years for it to start blooming. When it is blooming our whole massive flowering yard smells like heaven. It is a huge plant and I LOVE it. I bought two other exotic peonies at the same time. They have grown much slower. I called and asked why that would be and in two minutes the person I was talking to, a member of the family, told me they don’t have enough sun. I moved them this year and they grew a ton with more flowers. Can’t wait to see what they do next spring!

We have allium every spring, massive and beautiful from Jung. I actually bought about three hundred, tulips maybe more, at once. NOT SMART. Started with planting 12 at a time spacing them perfectly and by the end of the day was digging trenches and chucking bulbs in. Even the recklessly planted bulbs are beautiful flowers every spring. We have fir trees, flowering trees, arborvitae and flowering bushes from Jung. All wonderful and beautiful. While last winter was pretty rough on roses here, we lost half of them, my favorite and oldest rose I planted from Jung survived and was incredible this year.

We bought cosmos varieties from Jung because one of our children picked them out online. For as long as I can remember they reseed themselves in one garden. They just kind of show up looking like little ferns randomly and we let them grow always beautiful. We got giant hastas that get a little bigger every year for maybe five years.

We also have bought from hardware stores and a high end local garden center. Jung and the garden center dominate hardware store for quality and health of plants and Jung beats the garden center on price. I will for sure be buying MORE bulbs this year than I had planned, to support this amazing company after seeing the feedback here. Many times they have sent an extra try-this-too bulb or seed pack no charge.

I could not more highly recommend a horticultural company. They are amazing.

THE BEST highest recommendation!!!

After spending much time filling in forms for several companies, including Totally Tomatoes, I realized they were all at the same address in Randolph, Wisconsin. I looked at how much all this shipping and handling was going to cost me, how much time I'd already spent filling in form after online form at the same address, coming up with screen names and passwords for each, and decided enough was enough.

Why the heck couldn't they have a single place to log in and order from, with a single account, for all their various "brands"?

I logged out without finishing any of the orders. I'd already had previous annoying experiences with ol' R.H. where the packets of "special" seeds only had 5 or 6 seeds inside. Now, any seed catalog that arrives from Randolph, Wisconsin, goes straight into the recycling bin. Your mileage may vary.

Now ordering from each catalog will incur an additional fee, so I'll most certainly be ordering less because while some products do cross over between catalogs, each catalog is lacking in some areas. I may not order anything at all if I can't get enough seed to justify the shipping cost.

I order a few hundred dollars worth of trees and other plants from Jungs every year. They would actually be my go-to supplier except the way they have the Web-Site set up you can't order until they want you to. I sent an e-mail about this and they responded nicely but that is just the way they run it. My problem is that when they do start excepting orders, I am already nearly done ordering for the season.

Anyway, the reason I give them a Positive is the Trees always come in in excellent shape with a very large root system. This year I ordered apricot trees from three suppliers to do an experiment on which was best. Jungs came in untrimmed which I prefer so I can prune them the way I want. I put all of the apricots in the same area for cross pollination and the two from Jungs have grown about a foot with nice, even growth which the others are alive but they are so severely pruned that they on grew a few inches.

Last year I put in a Yellow Cornelian cherry and added another one this year along with two Reds (Pioneer and Red Star). The one from last year grew about 2 feet and the new ones are about 18" tall.

Three years ago I put in an Asian Pear collection. They don't sell all of them now but we were able to pick pears the following year after planting. They are now about 7' tall and with trunks about 4" in diameter. Again that root system is key.

I also put in a pair of Seaberries. I had four that never produced or grew for that matter. The Year after putting in the ones from Jung all of them took off. The two from Jung are already 7' and the female is loaded in only two years. I think the male is cheating on her though as the others are now producing as well. The male from Henry Fields is still only 18" tall and never has the nodes so I don't think he is the father.

My wife wanted some Gladiolus so I bought the big collection and 100% of them grew and were fantastic. They had a full range of color and ran over a 6 week period.

The seeds are fine but I don't have much trouble with them from any of the supply houses online.

I highly recommend this company for trees and I hope they open up the sales dates for those of us who plan ahead for the following year.

Over the years, I have had several fruit and flower varieties take a couple of seasons before fruiting/flowering, only to discover that they were the wrong variety. (Peony, grape, iris.) I have also had several specimens fail (heucherella, echinacea). I know that these things happen with any nursery; my main complaint is their customer service policy. A recent example: after two years tending to three irises purchased in 2013 as part of an internet special, the only surviving specimen FINALLY bloomed for the first time last week, and was radically untrue to cultivar. (Instead of being coral pink, it had white standards, beige falls, and a yellow beard.) After reaching out to customer service and providing a pic of the surviving rogue iris, I received an email offering to issue me a CREDIT for $3.11. Apparently that is the prorated cost of the one surviving iris. This amount covers less than half of the cost of a single replacement iris from the Jung Seed catalog, not including shipping. So the net result is: after waiting two years for these three irises to bloom, I have one iris remaining, and it's the wrong cultivar. I responded to their offer to issue me a $3.11 credit with a request for them to send me a single replacement iris -- EVEN THOUGH TWO IRISES FAILED AND ONE WAS THE WRONG CULTIVAR. They refused, and offered to issue a $3.11 refund instead of a $3.11 credit. Really? Not good enough to keep this customer. Buyer beware.

We are sorry for your experience with the iris. We do guarantee all of our merchandise to be true to name. If a plant does not bloom correctly, we do reship the item at no charge or refund if that variety is no longer available to reship. Since the iris purchased were internet special sale items, they are handled a little differently per The Jung Guarantee. Our guarantee does state that a sale item is only eligible for credit in the amount of the purchase price, not replacement, due to the greatly reduced price. As to the amount of the credit, we reimburse the amount paid for the item plus sales tax when applicable.

Our customers are very important to us and we try to make our policies as fair as possible. If you should have any further concerns, please feel free to contact our customer service department at 1-800-297-3123.

I have placed several orders with this company over the years. In all of the plants purchased, only 1 died....a rose bush that was not hardy to zone 5. The following spring, I contacted Jung over my Love Song, and they allowed me to purchase a different plant at half price. I am very pleased with their customer service. I didn't have to wait 1 week for a response from them either (like Forest Farms.)

I placed a mixed order of seeds, strawberry plants and flower plants in February. I have no problem with the seeds, and the strawberry plants were lovely, but I will cetainly never order flower plants from them again. The Silver Mound artemisia are just OK, all the Mercury Rising Coreopsis were terrible and quickly died, the Smoke Signal little bluestem grass is struggling, and there is not a sign of growth on the Midnight Marvel hibiscus (yes, I know it is late to emerge, but it has been in a long time). I was going to just forget it and say "live and learn" until today. It is now May and the Tiki Torch echinacea has not arrived, so I called customer service to cancel the order. I talked to a rep who said Ok, done. A few minutes later she called me back and said that the plant had already shipped. What a coincidence that it shipped on the very day I called; and wouldn't you have thought I would have had an email when it shipped? Neither customer service rep that I talked to tried to make me happy. I guess they are there just to say they're sorry but aren't empowered to actually do anything. I was told to send it back if I didn't want it.

I live in Marietta Ga and Not real pleased with my experiences of ordering any plants on line First because they are usually TO small, To expensive, and a pain to get any customer service. WELL that has changed for me as far as customer service is concerned with Jung seed since my order was a challenge because I made it in Dec. for spring Bulbs and a Itoh Peony, I was told that they would be sent on or about the end of April . which did not bother me because sending bulbs thru the mail in freezing weather would insure 1. bad bulbs 2. frozen bulbs 3 dead bulbs. They sent the bulbs anyway in Jan and sure enough when they arrived they were in bad shape and unuseable. Upon the thaw they were indeed mush. That is when I decided to test the customer service. I called and without question the Lady on the line apologized for the mistake and assured me that they would be sending replacements. Then once again the weather went bad and we had 8 degree weather when the plants arrived and set on my porch til we came home the next day and guess what the same thing again. I called and JS without question responded with still another replacement. Later at the end of march my itoh peony came in and from all appearances the peony looked great. I called and expressed to them that the peony exceeded my expectations I planted the peony just as I have planted over 30 others that I have in my garden. 2 weeks later the plant was still not doing anything and all of my other peonies were at least broken ground. upon further look at the itoh peony it had turned brown and was completely brown whereas before there were eyes and looked healthy. I was very disappointed and again I called JS customer service and they assured me that they would replace the Expensive Peony. I will update this post when I receive the other peony as to condition and health. I say all of this to try and let everyone know that Not all of my online purchases have been this involved and one could easily say why even deal with this or any issue like this WELL I will certainly be doing more business with JS BECAUSE I could not ask for better service and support ,even from my neighborhood nursery. The experience (,While not what I would have wanted) was a good one from the standpoint that they JUNG SEED have stood behind my purchases. even as crazy as this one was. Hard to find anyone that will be as concerned that you are satisfied and will stand behind your order WITHOUT QUESTION I WILL BE DOING BUSINESS THERE AGAIN SEMPER FI!!! POSITIVE+

At this point, I am distressed with Jung. I have ordered from them before, with mixed results, but they have always been slow in sending the order. I have attributed it to my ordering later in the spring. But this year, I ordered January 30, and they are still not on the way. This may be my last order.

On February 7th, 2015, Lilyhazen added the following:

I have been contacted and assured the package went out two days ago (no email notification, however). It is being sent "blended delivery" via UPS and USPS. While I am sure this saves money, in my experience it lengthens the time to arrival. How hard is it to just put it in a padded envelope and mail it first class? They are not losing money, with the delivery costs they charge!
On February 9th, 2015, Lilyhazen changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following:

My package arrived today, so I am changing my rating to Neutral. I'd like to see companies drop the "blended method" of sending packages, however, as it seems to add a few days.

Just received my order from Jung's Fall 2013 catalog. I ordered some potted perennials as well as some supplies. The perennials are all nice-sized, healthy plugs. The 'Brandywine' hellebores were very nice especially since I had been looking for them for a while. The supplies were some biodegradable compost bags and some deer repellent. I am happy with my order and will not hesitate to order again.

I had always wanted to try the pillar type apple trees I have seen advertised and at public gardens but they were out of my budget range. This spring Jung had an end of season special on them. I ordered three for a very reasonable price. All three were healthy and dormant on arrival. I planted them and all three are doing well. I can't wait until they are large enough to start bearing. I don't have any reservations ordering dormant plant material from Jung. I have only had success with plants purchased from them.

I have ordered both seeds and plants from Jung during the past several years, and I am pleased with their products. The "Blues Brothers" lobelia germinate beautifully and are colorful additions to the garden and to pots. This Spring I ordered 3 blue delphineums which came in April - when there was still snow on the ground! I wasn't happy to have to keep them in the tiny pots for 6 weeks until I could plant them, or that one plant looked less than healthy, but they did grow and bloom nicely. (One is white rather than blue, but it is lovely.). Yes, plants they send are tiny, but that can be a good thing because they often transition better than larger specimens. I will continue to order from Jung. (Having spoken to customer service once, I learned the proper pronunciation of the company. I always pronounced the word with a silent "J." Shame in me. LOL.)

I ordered eight bare root Spirea Anthony Waterer plants in early June, 2014. How they kept them bare root without very much foliage until June I don't know. But I potted them and stuck them in my garden for fall planting in a permeant location. They now all have leaves are look healthy. I am very pleased with the company.
