July weather- Gonna be a hot one!!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Got a new thread going. It's the second already so we need it!!

Sunny with a high in the mid 80s today. Not too bad.

Thanks for the new thread. Looks like I just got in under the wire with my last post. Looks like I am in good company with pollinator pictures.

64° with a high of 88° and sunny. The air feels wet right now, so it's also going to be humid. A chance of rain tomorrow.

Bernie at our reunion, and at a retirement party there were cheesy potatoes. I honestly would have had more potatoes over another sweet desert. Now that is a meal! Once people taste a ''real'' egg, they realize the difference. DD raises chickens that run free, so I know that egg! It's a lot of work to provide people with food. I'm glad to see the market will continue to do better instead of fade away.

OK, now I'm really hungry!

Celia, ROTFL, I never read a post ahead, answering as I go. WE are hungry!! Love the snaps. Have a great time Oma!!

Marsue, ROTFL over the deserted island!

Ric, good thing for cameras and chloroform. That's the only ways I'm counting his eyes! Gorgeous! I didn't know honeysuckle came in that color.

Kelli, your sister was a cutie! You sure found an interesting thing in the middle of nowhere. Love the bell shaped flowers and that each is different. One up-turned, one down.

Chrissy, fun to be busy!

Sunfarm, perfect sense. Ooohh, pretty daylily!

Dyson, I was going to wave at you today. Sorry to hear you were sick. Been there last month! Grrrr!

Pepper, thanks for the new beginning. I'm sure your prediction is as good as any weather ''guy'' :o) I love the landing/take-off pose!

Sunfarm, a very graceful picture!

I haven't had any cloudy days to take pictures, The sun really washes out the daylily color. Besides, with the mosquitos I need a zoom lens!

After the rain, the ''Blanche Sandman'' Honeysuckle really burst into bloom!

Sunny, windy, hot, humid, that was today's weather here. Chance of rain tonight. We actually can use a shower after 4 days of drying wind!
DS started water on a couple things this afternoon.

Took a huge load of produce to market this morning. Nearly sold out by 10AM. Did sell out & all we brought home was a pile of greenbacks.

Can't keep up on eggs any more, so going looking for more hens.

Poor economy sure is changing peoples eating habits. Everybody wants local homegrown.

Bernie

Mid 80s and sunny til early afternoon. Then minor stoms moved into the area and will be around til sunset tonight. Tomorrow more storms.

The good thing is as soon as I got home this afternoon I got 4 out of 8 bushes planted!! Both my dwarf willows and 2 knockout roses. I had planned on mulching them today too but the rain came in first. So no mulch yet but they did get a nice bit of rain on them.

Butterfly on coneflower. Different view than yesterday's.

78°, Dark & Loud (practice for the fourth happening sporadically in the neighborhood). Wish I lived in a less populated area.

Been gone for awhile - Computer Virus since Sunday - back OL - have to check other threads and reply to d-mails then finish restoring puter. (I miss firefox).
Care to all.

Details for Sunday, July 04
Abundant sunshine. High 91F. Winds light and variable.
Evening: Mainly clear. Low 64F. Winds light and variable.

I wanted to hike across "grassy hill" mountain today, where the power lines cross there is a service trail to look for blackberries - Sue did not like the idea of me doing it by myself.

Ok Sue, my beloved other is trying to keep me from having another heart attack, I understand this! Still does not make it easier to swallow. Tired now from cooking squash.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Happy Birthday Rann!!

Dyson, you should have asked her to come with you. Then she could have kept an eye on you and kept you from overdoing it. And tell her exercise is good for the heart. :~)

Hot and humid today. Winds came in this afternoon along with clouds. Rain off to the west going north so won't get hit here.

Thumbnail by pepper23
Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

I asked her - though it was futile - she and I both know that her limited lung capacity makes this climb imposable for her and she thinks my heart attack makes it likewise for me. I do not think likewise & anyways would rather die on that mountain than a hospital bed. I am not trying to kill myself, rather enjoy what life I have left enjoying what I want to do with it.

Irvine, KY(Zone 6a)

Exercise is good for the heart; overexertion is not. It does look pretty steep--those contour lines get pretty close together, Dyson. I hate to take sides, but with the hot, sticky weather now coming back I suspect she was right to have doubts about your safety. My DH went out early to clear a few trees off a path to the lower fields for the horses so they would not have to get out into the driveway and got winded and soaked with sweat before I realized it. At least he had his cell phone and called DD to come fetch him on the 4-wheeler so he didn't have to walk back up to the house, which is about 120' higher than where he was even if it was less than half a mile away. At least our cultivated berries are easily accessible.

Horrid forecast for the whole week-- mid-to-upper 90s and high dewpoints, with no precipitation until late Friday.

Nice looking berries - I am going to go find some today. Somewhere.

Sunny. Hot. High near 95F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Evening: Generally clear. Low 64F. Winds light and variable.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Hot and Humid already this morning.
Started at 70° and 100% Humidity.
We're at 73° and 94% currently.
Heading for 92°.
Smog alert from yesterday has been lifted.
Smells of gunpower.

They certainly helped China's economy last night! LOL!

Dyson how about doing the hill in increments.
1/3 up then back.
Next trip 2/3 up, etc........
Probably better to set a realistic and SAFE goal.
I rehabbed my Son from a stroke years back.
Push but not to the point of failure or in your case HA.

Hot and humid here today. Rain showers a few times so all my plants are happy. Managed to harvest my grow bag of red potatoes. Got a gallon pot's worth of taters. The ones in the ground aren't ready yet I don't think. Foilage still too green and healthy.

79° F tonight. More low 90's expected the next couple of days with sun and little chance of rain.

Been lurking--as usual. Seems like everyone's heating up! After last years cool wet "Canadian" summer this is quite a change.

Evening: Mainly clear. Low 63F. Winds light and variable.

Went to a house warming at a step nephews new rental. got a few good pics of where the power line crosses the top of the mountain from his front porch. Also noticed that he is about to be run over by Kudzu. He had never heard of it before. Got an idea for a new enterprise. Will post pics when I have them downloaded.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Lovely Pep and eb!

HOT here today but the humidity was only 50% at 89° so it didn't feel too bad.
We went Butterfly hunting again w/ Eric.
Found a few new ones but really scored w/ the Dragonflies.
They were everywhere!
Got pictures of 7 different ones at least. Some of the Damselflies will be a while in ID'ing.

Here's a pair of Band-winged Meadowhawks.
The next pic gets a bit pornographic..... lol!

Another nice day. 85º-ish.

Loving all the pics!!!

72° and cool. We had 1/2'' rain yesterday. Most of it Sunday night. Yesterday, I worked all day on putting too many pictures in folders. We'll have a high of 85° and a 60% chance of scattered T-storms. Gonna be muggy and mosquitoey!

We had a really nice family B'day party for my uncle Sunday, and got my 81 year old Dad home at 11:00 pm. He's usually asleep in front of the TV by 6:30 pm. Now you see where my early to bed early to rise comes from.

Alright Dyson. Sorry your computer is sick, LOL! Glad you're back anyway! It looks like a neat place to ride, but Sue is right to worry. Women want to grow old together and don't like the idea of being a widow. Men just say ''eh,'' even tho they know the risks too.

My BIL got a new toy last summer. A motorized byicycle. It pedals, but it also rides with the flip of a switch. Pretty neat. His other brother got one too.

Sunfarm, I'm glad he was able to call home.

Ric, my cousin and her brother both packed fireworks out in California. Some were packed for rock concerts. They worked year round. My cousin just quitting this year because of health problems. Not work related. She's SS age.

Pepper, sounds like a nice first harvest of potatoes.

Wow Early! Neat color and cloud!

Dyson, glad we don't fight Kudzu here.

Ric, LOL! I've had a lot of randy dragons flying all over and I was sure I saw a red one here the other day! Love the name on these!

Celia, beautiful!

I had two volunteer sunflowers. This one is such a creamy beautiful yellow and got 7' tall. I use the black oil sunflowers.!

Plentiful sunshine. Near record high temperatures. High 97F. Winds light and variable.

If you look real close at the ridge on the horizon you can see the tower that supports the powerlines crossing Grassy Hill.

93º today.

I love sunflowers, BP. So happy looking.

That IS far away! LOL

85° now - gonna haul off the aluminum to recycle before it gets to warm.

Tomorrow - back to work. Used to ask "do you have to work today?" now it's "can you work today?".

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Celia, now that's far far away, LOL! Beautiful picture! I always think sunflowers are happy too.

Dyson, glad you're back to work.

I got a nice walk in this morn and came home wet to the underclothes. It's humid! We had 6/10'' rain in the guage, so we only got a tenth yesterday. The sun keeps trying to come out. I'm not accomplishing a lot outside this year :o(

It's 84° and my flowers sure look nice from the windows!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Nearly ready for another market.
Fun now, there is so much produce to take. High humidity & temperatures with sun & no wind make for fast growth.
Have 3 kinds of onions, 3 kinds of peas, red & Yukon Gold potatoes, beets, carrots, broccoli, swiss chard, kale, kohlrabi, & tomatoes going today.

Found some hens on Craig's List. They are at Allison, IA. So will be heading there tomorrow morning. They have 50 Barred Rocks for sale. I am taking all of them. 160 miles one way.

Bernie

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Bernie, that is a fantastic list of food! Laughing over the chickens, but what are you going to do? If they're laying now, that's what you want. No time to wait for chicks to grow up.

You are one hard working guy!! I hope I have half your energy 10 years from now.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Low 80s with scattered showers today. Not bad at all!!

I found a bunch of cats yesterday in my garden. I think they came on my new coneflower. Here is one of them.

Thumbnail by pepper23
Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I am 35 stuck in a 66 year old body. LOL!

Sold nearly everything today.

Off to bed, need to rise early.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Pep I asked the Caterpillar Ladies for an ID on yours.

Hot today at 91° but only a 39% Humidity.
Felt like being out west.
Hotter tomorrow, mid 90's but the low humidity should remain.
T-Storms by Friday.

We picked our first Green Beans this morning.
About 2 quarts.... not bad from about 18' of rows.
They will be dinner Thursday night w/ potatoes and ham.
We're 'day tripping' tomorrow.

Ric

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Pepper, I was going to say Painted Lady cat, but I'll wait for Ric's final word.

Bernie, you're one of the lucky ones! Stay forever young!

Ric, day trippin sounds better than hammering in the heat. Are you canning beans? Perfect bean meal! YUM!

I woke to pouring rain, lightning and thunder. It sounded like hail mixed in, but I couldn't see any. I slept pretty good, so I don't know when the rain started. I hate having to sleep with the windows closed. You can't hear much, but it's too humid. We'll be in the mid 80's today with a chance of rain all day. I'm glad we don't have to get the boys till tomorrow. Then we have them till Monday. DD is showing her Boer meat show goats.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Looks like it to me too bp.
Pepper what plant do you find the cats on?

Ric

Irvine, KY(Zone 6a)

Wish we could have some of your rain, BP, but none is forecast before Friday here. Overnight low was 66 and it is now 82, climbing rapidly to somewhere above the 92 I recorded yesterday. Yes, we are under a heat advisory.

Did my monthly grocery shopping right after my 8AM weather reporting and was back home in two hours. Half that time was on the road to a nearby town where I can get through the whole store in about half the time it takes at the same chain's mega-multi-market in the next bigger town that takes an extra half hour on the road.
As I closed the gate to the yard I looked up the draw and saw sunlight streaming through the just-lifting fog. It was really pretty; I will look tomorrow and see if I can get a picture if it happens again.

Keep cool, everyone!

(Zone 7a)

86º for our high today.

I'd like to see that pic, Sunfarm.

Mmmm....ham and beans and potatoes...I think I'm hungry.
