While considered a "large" hosta, is not overwhelming in leaf size or body, so although it will make a wonderful specimen, you don't have to have an extremely large place for it. It looks wonderful tucked against evergreens and playing off various flower colors.

I planted this one next to my pathway about 4 years ago, and it has grown into a truely majestic plant (see my photo)! Two years ago I added an 'All Summer Beauty' hydrangea just in back of this hosta and this summer the combination delighted me for most of the summer. Although the flowers of the aureomarginata are actually more of a lavendar - when seen against the colors of the ASB hydrangea, they appear almost mauve in color. I had a lot of ooohhhs and ahhhs from visitors last summer.

Flower scapes grow to 40"+, flowers are long lasting and appear in late July to early August here. This is a very easy hosta to grow. Less "picky" than some other varieties and does well in the bright situation I have it where it is sheltered only from the hot afternoon sun. I have it planted in a nice loam that has ample moisture.

A great no fuss hosta. An oldie but a goodie and very good price point.
