Pepper is a generic name for a huge group of plants that bear fruit or seeds used as flavoring or in cooking. The common garden pepper, Capsicum, offers a wide range of fruits from long, ‘banana' shaped peppers to the ubiquitous bell pepper. Peppers are part of the nightshade family which also includes tomatoes, eggplant and potatoes. They need hot weather in order to flower and produce fruit.
