It is hard for me to understand those who find this bird to be a pest. They are completely inoffensive, and pleasant to have around. They come to my little pond to have a drink of water, and sometimes to cool off with a bath, I often hear them cooing and think how pleasant it sounds. This year, I have had a nest near the top of my patio cover, and the dove has allowed me to look at her from a fairly close vantage point. She sits there quiet and serene, has 2 chicks who grow very quickly. After I can see their little heads it is only about a week until they are gone. I thoroughly enjoy having them around, and they don't seem to mind having me around either!

Thank you for the comment. I am not sure how to move it to Mourning Dove, which is what I intended --just been a few days in the site.

They are peaceful birds and their gental cooing is relaxing. On the other hand, they tend to overpopulate in my area (New Mexico) making most people regard them as pests.

Note: The photo showing the speckled back is NOT a white-winged dove ... it is a mourning dove. Both of these types of doves are frequently seen together. The white-winged dove has a distinctive white bar at the base of the wing (not found on the mourning dove). Likewise, the white-wing dove does not have a speckled back (found on the mourning dove). As a 3rd distinguishing characteristic, the mourning dove is more gray colored; whereas, the mourning dove's chest is a bit on rusty colored side.
