They form neat clumps of scalloped leaves, often tinted bronze or purple, from which arise stems bearing masses of dainty, nodding, white, crimson or pink bell flowers often over a long flowering season. They make useful ground covers and woodland plants, or they may be used as rock gargen or edging plants.
CULTIVATION
Mostly very frost hardy, they grow well in either full sun or semi-shade and like well-drained, coarse, moisture-retentive soil. Propagate species from seed in fall or by division in spring or fall; cultivars by division in fall or early spring. Remove spent flower stems and divide established clumps every 3 or 4 years.
