I keep it with hosta, lilies, bergenia, and ferns and it adds a bright spot. I tend to hose or sweep the areas where these fellas are planted and neglected to rid the plants of seed heads. The second year I had lots of small plantlets coming up, Like ligularia and trollious they propagate easily so cut off those seed heads. The good news is that this plant is distinctive right from the time it opens its first leaves, so it is easy to get rid of excess. I have a preference for keeping these plants for a couple of years then replacing them with younger plants as I find they get rangy and tough.

Will grow in most areas, prefers a rich, well drained soil but doesn't appear to be too fussy. Very tenacious of life and will return if the tap root isn't fully dug out.
Contains moderate amounts of oxalic acid wich gives it it´s sour taste. Oxalic acid is poisonus so don´t eat to much.

This is a valuable and beautiful salad green. It has a sour green lemon taste. I love it!
Very early to rise in the spring, the leaves are awesome in salads giving a tangy lemon flavor.
