Older leaves eventually fading to light green, thus providing enough chlorophyll to nourish the plant. This and other occasional philo 'albo variegatas' sporting this somewhat stable trait are called "ghosts". I have Imbe albo variegata, Emerald Queen albo variegata, & Philo X 'Florida' albo variegata produce these stable 'ghosts' and not revert back to the albo variegata patterning. Whether or not they would be considered separate cultivars is up to the 'pros'!
