The variegated form is much less often seen and seems to be less vigorous. Do not ever prune this plant unless it is just too big. It does not like being move and will actually stop growing for a month or two if its roots are disturbed. It can be grown in a very small pot just fine, however, the leaves will be smaller. Mine grew to about 20 feet in a ridiculously tiny 2 gallon pot, but it does better with more root room or in the ground. It prefers an extremely well-drained soil. Mine is growing in mostly gravel size pumice. Mine is outdoors all year except on those few nights in the 20's, and has taken very brief periods of temperatures of 28f with no problems. It much prefers to go dormant in the winter (low temperatures and shade outdoors) than to be brought indoors if at all possible. It will keep almost all its leaves this way. Leaves indoors at room temperatures without enough light will drop (direct morning sun at minimum). In hot, dry weather, it does not want too much sun, nor too much shade. After five years, my tiny one gallon vine has become very beautiful. Please see my picture.

The flowers are most fragrant in the evenings, with an interesting scent that changes over time, reminiscent of sweet, heavy jasmine or ylang ylang, cinnamon/cloves, a dry, earthy, mushroom like note, and sometimes even wintergreen/root beer. The quality of the fragrance is not as fresh as jasmine or trachelospermum, although it is always pleasant, but can be odd for a flower sometimes.

The 3 plants that I paid for were just as fresh & lively.
