I had it planted in partial sun (shaded from hot afternoon sun), and moist but well drained soil at the top of the hill above our pond. By contrast, the yellow potentilla also in my yard and in similar conditions is doing so well I have to prune it back hard every year.

In cool, damp climates the flowers are certainly more orange but in sun or heat, the colour fades to yellowish-orange, so for North American gardeners, part or light shade is advisable. The plant itself has a weak constitution with rather untidy growth. 'Orange Whisper' is far superiour.
Planted 2 of these a couple of weeks ago. They opened this week with temperature in the 70's.....a bright yellow... to my disappointment.
