2. First year blooming perennial
3. REALLY LEMON SCENT: the leaves really smell like lemon and not only have a citrus note as other plants.
4. It is, at least in my garden, THE BEST BEE PLANT, in my opinion catmint (both the common one and the lemon scented subspecies) should be called bee balm, because in comparison to monarda they feed and attract pollinator (Bee, bumblebee, butterfly) much, much better.
5.Finches (american goldfinches) LOVES the seeds and make a feast when seeds are ripe.
6. Deer/rabbit resistant.
7. Vigorous grower
8. Somehow drought tolerant
9. Self sowing but easy to control
I have sometime some plant popping over in place that I do not wanted, I can easily control by transplanting or just pulling out..
It grow in full sun to a bright shade with no problem. Adult plants are 4-5 feet wide and 3-4 tall. The overall plant as in many herb case is not extremely decorative but give to your garden so much sophistication in terms of wildlife attraction, and scent. It does have all the positive attributes of catnip without smelling like cat urine....I simply love this plant!!
