Incredibly vigorous, quick to establish, and free flowering all summer. Big boy shrub - D.A. says 6' x 6' @ maturity, and mine is alread...Read Morey 5' x 5' after two years. Would make an awesome hedge (D.A. recommends it for such) if I had room for more than one!
Flowers are a pretty, slightly warm pink maturing to a slightly cooler pink. Color goes with anything - not too pale, not too bright; not too cool, not too warm. They have a slight fragrance, about 2.5" or so in diameter, double blooms, but otherwise unremarkable.
Can get a bit of black spot, and a couple of Japanese beetles, but it easily shrugs off both and keeps right on chugging. I never spray.
Incidentally: I prepared an enormous 2' x 2' hole for my bare root. Screened out all stones, amended heavily with compost and peat, and fertilized at planting time with Rose Tone, and have done nothing else in two years. No fertilizer, no water, no nothing. I planted it right, but am still amazed at how self-sufficient this is (I'd be afraid to fertilize it, frankly! lol)
I bought Hyde Hall as he tolerates part shade according to D.A., but the part shade he gets in my yard is about 4 hours of baking hot SW/W afternoon sun. Imperturbable rose.
