Sue...I will bring you an ostrich fern too!
Spring RU Trade Thoughts
Great on the fern, Marcy, thanks.
George, last year you had quite a few Japanese Maple seedlings. Do you have any this year?
Sue I have a Care Package going of plants for your woods.
These are fast growing plants so be prepared... not dangerously invasive though.
I'll see if we can throw some O Ferns in too.
You can certainly transplant ferns.
In fact they take to it quite well.
Many of the ferns in our yard are rescues from construction sites.
We take trowels and plastic bags for the digging.
Get as much dirt as possible and bag quickly.
Tie them closed... then just prepare an area w/ compost and plant.... water often at first.
Bracken, Holly and Christmas Ferns due especially well.
Ric
No, Joyce I don't have any this year. Sorry : (
I wanted to add that I have planty of creeping pond forget-me-nots, gold calendula, a couple of trades of sweet woodruff and lots of purple columbine to trade if anyone is interested
Lou, I'd love some of those purple columbines!
Lou the Pond Forget-me-nots for us for sure!
Need any Lizard Tail?
Ric
I don't know what 'pond forgetmenots' are...but I love forgetmeknots Lou! I would take some too if you have any extra?
I have 2 small potted up red buds if anyone
would like them and mixed columbines
and then I have some winter sown yellow columbines
Pauletta
Paulette, I am interested in any of the columbines. Please, please!!
OK Bonnie
Will put you down for some
Pauletta
Thanks, Paulette.
Actually Paulette my neighbor Jon is looking for a couple of Eastern Redbuds.
He loans us garden space so.... what do you need for them?
Ric
Ric
OK put you down for the redbuds....
I think you are bringing me some stuff already
but if you have any extra lungwort
I would like some of it.
Pauletta
I would be interested in the columbine and a start of the forget me not...it isn't invasive is it?
Pauletta, the black columbine you gave me last year is the prettiest color of PINK! LOL
I have a few tall phlox that I can bring, but since they're volunteers, I can't tell what color they are...
Got it Pauletta
I don't know if you would call the forget-me-nots invasive or not. We have them around the pond and on both sides of our little creek . They have grown in among the rocks we used to line the water with. They did spread, but we have had them for 10 years and we have never pulled any out. We just let them grow in the rocks. We bought two plants at the pond shop in Ramsey Indiana where we also bought our Koi and Lotus. The lady told us to put the starts in a ankle high pantyhose with some dirt. To tie the hose at the top and leave a long string attached . Then we put the string under the rocks and kept it close to the side but down in the water. I will put you down for some .Ric, Marcy and Joycet to get Forget-me-nots and Defoecat, Neal and Joycet some columbine.
Ric if you have any left, I would like a start of the ostrich fern. Thanks, Lou
Joycet,I'm so sorry to have to renege on a trade. The squirrels ate ALL of the Diamond Frost Euphorbia. I looked for roots and couldn't even find them. UR!!!!!!! Is there anything else I can bring to you instead of it?? Lou
If I can manage to dig them, I have ostrich fern I want to get out this spring. I will toss it in the car and you all can fight over it.... LOL There are not that many, just one here and there that popped up. But, I don't want them where they came up.
I also have some winter sown annual seedlings of China Aster (1 trade) and Convolvulus, royal ensign (3 trades) if anyone wants them. I have never grown them before so I don't know anything about them , except they looked real pretty on the seed package.LOL Lou
Since I am unable to come this year please take lots of pictures and post them please. I am still lurking here.
There will be lots of pictures and you will be able to put some names and faces together. I wish you were going, but I know it was a conflict with other important things. Maybe next year we can both go. You will enjoy meeting everyone. Lou
Stop by and see the yard in bloom if you 're in town. Lou
Oh Joyce I am so sorry
It was supposed to be black.
I have my mixed and yellow columbine
in one flowerbed and the black in
another one away from it.
Thanks Lou I'll do that. Are you still back at work? I don't get into town much any more except for groceries and supplies. Not much running around shopping like in the old days. Must be too old. lol.
When are you coming down to see me?
Don't know if you all keep up with the cottage garden seed exchange forums but LeBug's dad passed away a day or two ago. Someone on there had heard from her.

Well we're done in Dayton for the weekend and have all the plants covered for frost that need it.
So tomorrow we'll start on seeing exactly what we have to trade and quantities.
A big factor will be the frost or lack of it tonight.
So no dibs until we figure out what kind of #'s we're talking.
Lou I have some O. Ferns for you.
I'll also be sending you a DMail... about some art and pricing I just ran in to if that's OK.
Ric
Thanks ric. No problem. Lou
No worries about the Diamond Frost. Thanks for bringing the Forget-me-knots!
I just noticed the reference to E.'Diamond Frost'
Lou were you growing it from seed?
The one we just got is a very tender annual.
Ric
It is an annual. I kept in indoors on my lighted plant stand all winter and propagated several starts . I put them in my containers as filler. They fill out and look real nice in amongst (lol) the other plants. I found out, by acccident ,that it roots easily in water. I had a cut flower bouquet that stayed around too long, and when I went to empty the vase, it had rooted. If you need more, get some started now for later. Lou
Ah I was just going to ask how you propagated it.
We bought it a few weeks ago.... now we'll get started popping out more.
THANKS! Ric
I have a piece of Diamond Frost that I broke off of my daughter's plant when I was filling her containers. I'm patiently (yeah right) waiting for it to get some roots. Hope I can get it to grow. I sure didn't know you could do that until I read the post from Lou some time ago.
Ignorance hanging out all over here, what is Diamond Frost?
Here you go Bonnie.

Lou I started some cuttings today.
Ric
Thanks, Ric, I hate ignorance, especially in me.
Welcome!
Ignorance can be cured....... stupidity on the other hand..... lol!
Ric
That and ugly!! Neither one goes away quickly!
They asked one person, "Which do you think is worse apathy or ignorance?"
The person replied, "I don't know and I don't care!"
LOL!
