Summer Lilies 2008 Pt. 5

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

So many beauties, too many to comment on all! Suffice to say, great show, gang! I'm especially loving the OTs.

Diann, your gardens are fantastic! Your maybe Orania looks like mine, and the one from Ramona you were unsure of looks like Gluhwein, that I also got from her this spring. I got 2, and one finished blooming before the 2nd started. The 2nd gets a tad more shade from evening sun and has more intense coloring-gotta get out and get more pics today.

Chocolatemoose, lovely grouping- Tiger Woods is awesome!

jmorth, that gorgeous specimen looks a lot like Pizzazz in coloring, but judging from pics the shape looks a bit different. I just planted Pizzazz this spring and the one bud it had got knocked off, so it will be another year to behold it in person.

Blooms are coming so fast, its easy to fall behind on photo documentation. Some really special ones are starting to open- its such fun to see what surprises await each morning! Tiger Move opened yesterday, and is a vision to behold. Now that I've seen it, I wish I'd gotten Tiger Woods too (that Tiger Move is a sport of); I thought it looked a lot like Dizzy in the pics, but the blooms are bigger with wider petals and gorgeous detail. Another yellow OT from Ramona opened yesterday too, I think Tarragona. Its the prettiest light, but bright yellow, and huge.

Keep em coming!

Here's a few more growing happily in Alaska...LOTS more to come...and we are all off schedule...My asiatic colonies in the ground are just thinking about blooming but still won't open for a while yet...

Tiger Woods...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, Ramona!...We've got heavy rain last night so the "group pic" of Tiger W. would show them with runny pollen mascara stained faces...This one kept her eyes closed till the sun came out.

Hard to capture the impact of this one...kind of like Stargazer on steroids...

Schellenbaun, Spice Island, Visa Versa, Robert G. and Tiger Woods all stood out for me today. Beautiful!!

Ticker, you garden beds are awesome.

lilyfan, your "golden Stargazer" looks a lot like my American Heritage that just started to bloom a couple days ago.

After spending a very hot day digging up and dividing Iris, I'm think maybe lilies are an even better thing than before. At least they don't need to be divided at the hottest time of the year.

It's so much fun, all of these beautiful blooms. I tell you every day gives me a new favorite. 'Tiger Woods' is a beauty.

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Chocolatemoose, just beautiful. I can't wait for my Tiger Woods and Tigermove to open. Your garden is breathtaking.

Susan, I had American Heritage a few years ago, but it was planted in another yard, and the deer ate it. I bought 2 bulbs of Golden Stargazer, one came up "maybe right" and the other came up that one. I will have to buy an American Heritage, for comparison sake only :-).

I can't wait to get back from Chicago...........I get to dig and divide iris then.

Better go police the yard I have a couple coming to tour the yard, later...

Lovely gardens, beautiful flowers! I'm enjoying them all.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

This collective lily garden is astounding! Too many beauties to mention. I, too, am getting behind on photos but is is pouring here at the moment so I'll have to hold off on pics.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I had typed a long winded bunch of praise about all the beauty pictured above and its just gone! Anyhow, I've got more pics now, so I'll throw the comments I remember along with them :-)

Diann, I think the one in question from Ramona may be 'Gluhwein'. I got 2 of them, and one has finished blooming, and this one has just come into bloom. This one has a bit more shade from the evening sun and seems to have richer coloring than the first. Oh, and your "maybe Orania" looks like my Orania.

Chocolatemoose, I love 'Tiger Woods'! From the pics I thought it looked so much like 'Dizzy', but now I realize its bigger with wider petals. I did get 'Tiger Move', a sport of it, and LOVE it!

'Tiger Woods' has a much, much larger flower than 'Dizzy' too and has a different petal structure, similar in tones, yes, but not in appearance in your yard ;) 'Tiger Woods' petals curved back a little.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

This beauty is swiftly rising to the top of my favorites, I posted pic before but had to do it again...I'm in a waiting mode for the next round, orientals and species.

Yep! I realized it when Tiger Move came into bloom right next to Dizzy where I could really compare them. Being a sport, I assumed Tiger Woods has all those yummy qualities I like so much in Tiger Move.

I believe this stunner is American Journey.

Ok...got my bib on, keep em coming!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Ooohhh, jmorth, I love that one. Beautiful how the blooms hang completely vertically. And you just reminded me, your no id stunner above is very similar in coloring to 'Pizzazz'. From comparing pics, the shape looks a bit different though. I obtained 'Pizzazz' this spring, and the one bud it had got knocked off, so another year to behold that one in person.

I'm completely crazy for the OTs! 'Zagorra' is putting on quite a show.

This OT is 'Invasion' from the Wooden Shoe co op this spring. Its a winner!

Another special beauty from Ramona, 'Tarragona'. Its the most beautiful shade of yellow, soft and lemony, but very bright.

Thumbnail by gemini_sage
Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Such gorgeous flowers. jmorth that one should be in bloom a long time for you.

"Invasion' looks better in your gardens gemini than ANY picture I saw ;)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Diann, I had also said in my lost post, I love your gardens!

This is 'Bright Star'

Ok, I'm going to be so broke this fall, between peonies, lilies and hostas, I'm going to be eating pork and beans all fall and winter. LOL It will be worth it too!

Neal, where did you get American Journey? It really is a stunner and needs to come live in Iowa. :)

So, what are the odds that you'll do another Wooden Shoe Co-op? :) hmmmmmm? :)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

mags, I was very pleasantly surprised with Invasion too! Much prettier in person :-)

I'm fond of the 2 LO hybrids I've tried thus far. These 'Novita' are new for me this year.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

And did I mention that 'Tigermove' is absolutely everything I thought it would be? Sharp, snazzy and scrumptious.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Ooooh, very nice! ;)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Diann, I'm pretty sure American Journey came from the bloomingbulb co op last year. Although thankfully the OTs were fine, several of the Asiatics I got from them were virused, so I won't be getting any more lilies from them. Spring Hill also sells them, but not the best reputation either. Well, they say women sort of forget the pain of childbirth and decide to do it again, so surely I'll forget some of the pains of running a co op, LOL! If I'm still not selling plants by then, I may possibly lose my mind again (in my case, not that big a thing to lose, lol) and do another.

Another oh so special one from Faraway Flowers, Salmon Star. I was so sure the color was enhanced in the catalog pics I'd seen, till Pirl posted a pic of hers last year. Every bit as stunning and unusual in person!

Thumbnail by gemini_sage
North Pole, AK(Zone 1)

I agree with Magnolia, the pics posted in this forum cost me 10x's more than the pics in any of the catalogs. I've looked at some of the pics posted and wondered why I didn't order that lily, then I look at the pic in the catalog and know why...Likewise, I'm learning to "read in-to" the catalog descriptions which I occasionally find to be of the same jargon as real estate ads...DG member pics and comments are the BEST advertising...My list is already very long for next year. I'm prepared to join a few co-ops this year and am joining the PNWL Society...and I had told myself that since I have so many that won't bloom this year for whatever reason, I wouldn't need to get ANY new ones because those will be new to me next year...That thought process is out the door!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

mags, you're killing me! I gotta have it. Hey, you should work for Ramona! Heck, most of us could, as far as singing praises go, LOL.

Considering the quantity of bulbs and varieties we got from Wooden Shoe, I've been blown away! Not only have their been only the tiniest percentage of bulbs that didn't perform, but I'm finding them all way prettier than the pictures. Haven't seen any mislabeled ones yet either, but I'm so chaotic about records- like I'd ever really know, LOL. But I have for sure only found yellow where there is supposed to be yellow, or pink where I wanted pink, and so on- I have my own little chaotic method of checks and balances to alert me of mislabeled ones.

'Angelique' are just adorable. I had no idea they'd be so petite.

A closer shot of 'Angelique' with my hand as size reference. I guess my hands are average sized, lol.

Ooohh, Moby, that's lovely! It looks like a really big bloom. Is that from buggy?

These 'Tiara' really glow in this semi shady spot against the dark background of a spuce.

they are all stunning .

Will add a few more later, got to get something else done!

Maybe when Ramona's business is as large as Microsoft, maybe she'll hire me to weed her gardens ;) Lol. I think once you buy from Faraway, there's no turning back....at least there isn't for me. Some pretty special bulbs there. I can hardly help but sing the praises if those small businesses I adore! Beautiful lilies with a personal touch, you can't beat it.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Lovely lilies everyone! :) Neal your gardens are beautiful and most of all not weedy. :) LOL

Yes, Mags, one can never speak too highly of Ramona and Faraway Flowers. The stuff she carries is pretty darn nice. :)
