CLOSED: 2010 UNUSUAL SEED SWAP ANNOUNCEMENT

Winnetka, CA

Hello all, just reading all your posts today as I've been away from the computer for several days.....its tough finding the time....lots of great seeds!!

Theresa I hope to get my seeds packed up and off to you next week sometime....I am almost finished...

To those of you listed below, I would love to obtain the following.....

Flinter - Lathyrus odoratus 'Wiltshire ripple (so pretty!!)

Poisondartfrog - Asarina scandens, Joan Lorraine

Marti001 - Buddleja davidi Black Knight - are these easily grown from seed? I've only had experience with plants...also the coneflowers you didn't mention what colors/types? Just love coneflowers!

Kwolflady - Poppy Venus (these are just lovely flowers)

I envy those of you with rain.... we just finished up a week in the 110-113 range .... I and my garden long for rain!!

Nancy

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I have no idea how easy the buddleja davidii is to start from seed. The coneflowers: some of them are marked for color some are not.

Gold Beach, OR(Zone 9a)

The buddleja are very easy from seed, that is why its considered invasive. I would winter sow it, duplicating nature as it is now illegal to sell in nurseries, it will reseed at will. Just the common one, you can still grow them, just cannot sell them in nurseries.

Winnetka, CA

rebeccanne - thanks for the info..... didn't realize it was illegal to sell in the nurseries... I wonder why? It's wonderful to see the butterflies come to visit the butterfly bushes....and they are beautiful of their own accord.... I lost a white one to the extreme heat we had this year... but enjoyed another in a pot in my backyard....it's a soft lavender color and was mature enough to withstand the heat . Nancy

Gold Beach, OR(Zone 9a)

Its only in Oregon, you can still buy them in CA. We also cannot sell ivy, but Ca can. The problem with the butterfly bushes is they reseed way too well. There are some new ones coming out that are going to be fantastic and don't reseed as badly. There is the Jazz series and Blue Chip and Lo and Behold. They bloom longer and stay very short, I am hoping on getting some of them, we can sell them here. I loved Black Knight, I had a large one for many years.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I have friends here in KY and they have butterfly bushes and have no problem with them reseeding themselves. Maybe it has to do with the weather?

Gold Beach, OR(Zone 9a)

I got the name wrong on the new series, its Buzz, not Jazz. Its very strange, the ones in my yard never reseeded and I thought it was just an over reaction, saying they were invasive. The ones I had in pots reseeded in other pots like weeds. I am still, after 3 years, getting seedling in pots. I think perhaps they do not reseed so well in a grassy area, but in bare soil, watch out. I am not sure they should have been banned, but they are so there it is.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Day late, but my seeds will be in the mail tomorrow. Have fun with your swap. And!! I hope all my seeds find good homes.

Denver, United States

I think my seeds are going to arrive late.
Life has intervened while I was trying to get my "unusuals" together.
I can't see getting them out now before the end of next week (i.e. the 15th)
The international post will delay things a bit further.
As I see it, there are these options:
1 you can officially declare me out of the trade.
2 you can wait to distribute seeds until mine arrive (only about 3-4 packs per person, if we now have 11 participants)
3 Theresa can keep everything that arrives late!

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

dont worry Peter, we will think of something! Just post or dmail me your list. If it arrives too late I will include it in the next unusual swap, that will be Oct15-Nov15.
If you prefer to be in this swap I can use extra seeds of mine for you and use your seeds in the next swap. Up to you.

Snellville, GA(Zone 8a)

Rebeccanne

pls I would love some of you snapdrangon.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I got my seeds in the mail this morning, was told they should be there by Friday. I hope so, I have been so busy, it took me too long to get them off to you. I did put some interersting things in, at least I hope people will find them interesting.

If we mentioned things we want here in this thread, do we still need to do a wish list?

Theresa,
I think you need a bigger table!

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

Peter_Rabbit....you know I do! Today I hope to complete my bulb/plant swap. That will free up two tables so I can spread out the seeds and pack them up!

Gold Beach, OR(Zone 9a)

Oh look at those fat seed packs! It makes my heart warm. If I get just a few packs I will be happy, some really amazing things offered here. I love it if I find things I actually have to look up because I have no idea what they are. This swap kept me busy with google.

My second batch of seeds can go to swap #2? I will also collect some more, I will find the thread and join.

You are awesome to have this swap, thank you so much!
