July Lilies

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

voss ~ a virus can come along at any time. That why it's important to control sucking / chewing insects in your garden.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the tip Moby

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I have one at just about 5 feet and one a little over that. I am 5 feet tall and it is a bit taller than me.

So how much of Agawam do you own, Debbie???? LOL! I think you've about covered it all w/lillies! Can't think of anything prettier^_^

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

dlefferts, did you notice in the background of your Sarabande pic, there is an outline of Sarabande again with its normal aspect? Excellent photo design!

Your "Lilium columbianum" has really cool spotting, with the size of the spots diminishing as they go toward the center. A most pleasing effect. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7971296
But...
It's not columbianum, as the species is a downfacing and strongly recurved lily. Leaves are arranged in whorls, too. Yours looks to be an asiatic lily, with leaves scattered about the stem?

dlefferts, it seems like I am picking on you, LOL!
Thanks for being a good sport.

dlefferts: Love that shot of the bed with Big Brother. What's the blue (non-lily!) in the right rear?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Wonderful photos, everyone, and great lilies.

Love that Casa Blanca with the Ipomopsis, Jack: terrific color harmony there.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

jmorth, I vote for casa blanca w/ ipomopsis, too.
dlefferts, love el Flame.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Beautiful!!!

I am done here I guess. American Debutante seem to have not shown up which is a total bummer. Susan was so nice to send it to me last fall. I was really looking forward to it. :(

Tomah, WI

jmorth- Your stand of Bolero is gorgeous!

I love every single lily on this thread.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Nanny, don't give up on that Lily, Lilies are notorious for occasionally taking a year off, especially newly planted bulbs. Somehow they manage to grow underground, and often show back up vigorously the next year. I haven't had it happen a lot, but from time to time over the years. 3 of the 4 Japanese hybrid OTs I planted a couple of years ago didn't show up the first year, but all showed up the next year as if they hadn't missed a thing.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh that sure would be nice.....my Henry's Surprise is up but doesn't look like it is going to bloom this year...no buds.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Crystal Blanca, which is basically a shorter Casablanca with a stronger stem. I love having both.

Thats good to know Neal.I wont replace lilies that take a year off.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

JoAnn, one time I even had it happen with some 2nd year Lilies. The first year I planted 'Shocking' they bloomed normally, the next year, not one of the 3 bulbs showed up- I figured voles had eaten the bulbs. But year 3 they showed back up, taller and with more blooms than the first year.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I love that lily.I hasnt taken a time out for me but other varieties have.
My Shockings this year are nearly seven feet.

I've had that happen quite often, Jo Ann. Just nothing at all the year after I fall planted them, and then the next year there they are.

Oh drats! What was supposed to be Arena opened today, and I think it's Stargazer or similar. I had to wait 2 years for this. No pic. It was too hot to go back upstairs for the camera.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

How disappointing, especially after a two year wait.

This is pretty enough but certainly not Crystal Star.
