2009 Blooms #5

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I really like "Iowa Rose" and "Miss France". Rita, isn't Miss France an Oriental? I am surprised it would be out this early where you are.

Poland, ME

Boy do I feel left out! Only buds here -- even on the martagons! Way too much rain and too cool! I am enjoying all these pictures!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

This has an incredible orange color - picture does not do it justice.

Great pics. Anyone on this thread into hybridizing the true lilies? Just wondering how long it would take to get a bloom.

Anywhere from 1 to 3 years depending on the type of lily (Asiatic, Oriental etc) and when the seeds get started. Some people keep seedlings growing inside over the winter and that gives them a head start. Many of the photos I post here are lilies I grew from seeds.

Yes, Miss France is an oriental I planted this spring. I don't know why she's blooming now, its way too early for when the orientals are supposed to bloom.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Isn't Miss France one of those dwarf Orientals? If so I think they tend to bloom earlier.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Steve...love that orange...I have a thing for orange daylilies too....

Had another flower on Eyeliner open today and it looked a lot better than the first one!

Also meant to mention that I have a dwarf oriental, 'Miss Birma' and she is always very early in blooming, much earlier than the most other orientals. It's a welcome sight.
