yes, I do know who it is, an un-named seedling, hybridized by Marvin Joslin. It is a new lily which I think they are registering this year out of Canada. I won it at our Lily Society Bulb Auction at our fall sale. It was donated by Kevin Frey. It is the only downfacing speckled lily I am aware of.
2009 Blooms #5
Drat, sellers didn't come down much. Looks like the 2.5 acre deal isn't going to work out. They refuse to sell it for what they paid for it only 1.5 years ago. In this market you would think someone would be happy to sell it at par. They don't want to lose money on the commision LOL. We lived in our house 5 years and took a 20k hit after comm. Owell...
Ok enough venting.
Here is a nice L. Pumilum stand, mmmmmm
It looks so pretty, that front yard of yours. It looks like your window box plant is on steroids. Nice job ;)
Wow, that going to be some display!
Wow, what beautiful lilies everyone has! One thing I love about these forums is that they give us all a chance to compare what we've got and I know I come away with so many new ideas for the following year.
jmorth, your "Neon Gold" is stunning and I think there will be a run on that variety this fall - Buggy is the only one I have seen offer it. I have it as well and absolutely love it.
Moby, love Connecticut King (I love yellows!) and Eurydice - mads was sweet enough to send me one of the latter - what a pretty lily.
Susan, what an impressive clump of "Latvia" and I love your "Midnight" - I want to get one of those as well - what color. And Tracey, love the "Barbara North". I think you introducd me to the downfacing pendants and I am really getting to love them - they add a new dimension to the Asiatics.
Intercessor, what an impressive stand of the species you have.
Like voss it has been hot as heck here. Nery, I see you still have some Asiatics hanging in there even this late in the year. My Asiatics are all but gone witht he exception of some Tiger Lilies I got from OHG. I do however have all the potted ones I got from B&D late spring and B&B also, so hopefully I will have a nice late flush of lilies which will be gool - worrked out late year and in a big pot in a protected location, they actually returned quite well.
I am so jealous of all of your fresh-looking lilies.
I found "Futura" blooming again
Love your hibiscus, intercessor- we have some in huge pots that we've been dragging inside each winter as they're not hardy here, and most have come back.
Also have the Hardy Hibiscus and those are just starting to bloom.
This was blooming yesterday - I think this is Trumpet "Gold Eagle" and I love it. Not vey "trumpety" at all; very open.
So OT's only work in your area?
I can grow OT's, Trumpets, LO's, Asiatics, LA's and OA's pretty well. Have not really tried any of the species lilies and have read that they do better in cooler summer climates, though maybe I am incorrect. The only ones I have attempted that struggle are the Orientals and they will return for me but the flowers tend to scorch very quickly and the stems browna nd die back much more quickly tan the others. My OT stems will stay totally green and healthy until we get a hard freeze.
Wow, I really don't need to be watching this thread LOL. When is the best time to dig lilies?
Great, great lilies everyone!
bluegrass, the optimal time to dig, transplant, move lilies is fall, after the foliage has yellowed and the stalks cut.
Oh im in Lily Heaven on this thread!!
I found another 'need' .....that Iwoa Rose is scumptious!!
I agree about 'Desert Song' it's one of my favorites too. I just DEMANDS your attention.
