In the past few years I have ordered fall-planting bulbs from this company. They always have arrived quickly and in great condition, and the best thing was is that they all grew and bloomed wonderfully. This year (2004) I decided to give them a try for seeds, as their prices seemed pretty good. I ordered the seeds online and got them in the mail just days later. The shipping costs were very fair, compared to other places. I encourage everyone to try Jung Seed.

I ordered roses and daylilies plus some glads from Jung Seed in Spring 2003. The roses were a patented type and I paid full price for them. When I placed my order, I asked that they be shipped May 1st rather than April 15th which was their default ship date listed on the order form.

I am happy to say they shipped my order as I requested. The roses were all alive and grew quite well over the summer. The daylilies are doing good too.

I tried to call Jung about the glads last spring because they looked moldy. Could not get through on the phone and eventually gave up. I crossed my fingers that they would bloom and planted the glads. My good luck they grew just fine.

I was very happy with the roses that I bought. Before buying them, I had viewed Jung's rating last year. (roses were a bit costly). I seem to remember that their rating was better last year than this year. Sorry to hear others did not have as good luck. I am happy I ordered from them.

They have wonderful and inexpensive trees - got a barefoot quince tree in a good condition. Got 2 great lavenders - that was in spring, when ordered 3 more and got them delivered during summer, all of them were dead. The company issued a refund though. My lesson - order early from them.

Well, it seems like a lot of people did not have very good experiences with Jung through mail-order. So, I just wanted to add that I went in person -- I live about an hour away -- and purchased a couple roses, the spruce-tree windbreak special, and a pussy willow shrub, all bare-root. Everything I planted is really doing great. This is the first time I ever purchased anything from them. I would glady buy from them again, but will most likely stick to personally visiting the nursery vs mail order.

I ordered Limerick Coreopsis and 72 glad bulbs this spring. They were late but there was a full explanation attached to the shipment describing the problems that they had this spring. The Coreopsis looked great and has grown wonderfully. All 72 of the glads came up! I am lucky to get 9 out of 10 bulbs to sprout so 72 out of 72 was excellent! I will definitely order from them again. My only complaint was that it was difficult to reach them by phone.

Jung has been satisfactory in the past but fell down this year. I ordered 2 blueberries; 1 came thru potted and in good shape, 1 was bareroot and dried out, stuffed in a small plastic bag with a little peatmoss, most of which had fallen out. Seed potatoes were dried out, a few rotting, the rest slow to chit. Onion plants were slimy, and one variety (Walla Walla) is doing poorly in the garden. Yellowstone carrot seeds were not shipped. I e-mailed them on April 21 and have not received a reply as yet.

On May 6th, 2003, rad added the following:

As of May 6 Jung has contacted me with an offer to replace questionable items. This is responsible of them, if a bit slow.
On May 23rd, 2003, rad changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:

Jung has replaced the onion plants with very fine stock. In addition, the missing seeds have been found. They were stuffed down the center of a roll of planters paper, along with three(!) trial packets; not the best packing technique, perhaps, but there they were. I like this company's product mix and hope they straighten out their administrative problems. I intend to give them another try next year.

I have used this company for years. They specialize in plants hardy in northern climates. This year I bought a Wisteria, Tree Hydrangea, and an Azalea collection. We were surprised at how big the plants were. They were shipped at the proper planting time, well packed, and are starting to bud out.

This was my first experience ordering plants by mail and I was very pleased with Jung's service. Just a few days after planting my blueberries are already making leaves and everything else has been top quality too. I'll definately do business with them again.

I have ordered from Jung's for 3 years and been exceedingly happy with all my plants. They all take off right away. 6 True geraniums I ordered ended up being 15 becasue they were so big I separated them. A great company. Great bare-root AND potted plants. I had a problem with some bare-roots that didn't come up, so they sent me the twice-as-expensive potted plants as replacements!

I ordered an oriental poppy collection and a few lily bulbs a week ago. The order arrived today, per my request. I placed the order by phone precisely so I could have the correct shipping for my real hardiness zone (as opposed the one assigned to my zip code by corporations). The roots all look a bit dry, but definitely viable, with little sprouts, and the lilies also look a bit dry but not rotten or diseased. I think all of my choices were fair value for the money: the bare-root oriental poppies (in seldom-available varieties) averaged $4.00 per plant, and the lily bulbs averaged $3.00 per bulb. I know I've got some nursing and coddling ahead of me, but at those prices, I expected that.

I'd also like to note, probably for about the hundredth time, that you get what you pay for in most instances. It pays to comparison shop, to check prices and selection at your local nurseries and on-line, to read reviews on a site such as this, and then do your buying.

On May 7th, 2003, nevadagdn added the following:

Now that I've read some of the negative comments subsequent to mine, I suppose it did take a very long time for the customer service representative to answer the phone. I didn't notice it, because I was tearing around my workplace (it's VERY relaxed) doing all kinds of tasks with my hand, and the cordless phone tucked into my ear. If I hadn't been busy, I probably would have noticed the wait time. Still, I got through, and the rep I talked to was helpful and courteous.

Update on the poppies and lilies: all are doing fine.

I first discovered Jung's about 2 years ago, and have been a loyal customer since. Everything I have purchased has been healthy and either already growing or waiting for the right conditions to come out of dormancy. The customer service people are wonderful, and although I've never had to test their guarantee, I have no doubt that they would be true to their word.

On May 14th, 2003, Intriguing1 added the following:

Okay.... NOW I have had to test their guarantee. One of the orders I placed was short an item. I called (reps are always courteous and helpful) and was informed that a replacement would be sent out right away. It was nearly a month, a second phone call (at a minimum of 20 minutes hold time per call) and an e-mail before the item arrived today. As always, I am very pleased with the condition of the plant, and with the packing. I will let my positive rating stand on the merit of their product alone; however, I have to agree with others about the abysmal customer service.

I've bought perennials, shrub rose, and seeds from Jung's for a number of years and I have always been satisfied. If something didn't grow, the friendly staff immediately either replaced the item or gave me credit. My mother has also purchased from them at their stores and she's been happy with what she has bought as well. For zone 4 gardens, they have good plants at a reasonable price. The catalog isn't glitzy, but then neither are the prices. I get alot more for my money than spending alot on 3-year-old perennials which will need to be divided the next year.

Jung's is currently running a bit behind on orders due to try to chase down replacements for phantom seed stock that failed to show up when the family purchased Shumway and Vermont Bean. They are now advising ordering on line for the quickest service. I've ordered from them for many years and only had a question or mixup twice. I wish that I could say the same for several of the companies that they purchased.

I've been ordering from Jungs for several years, In my opinion they have superior stock to other mail order companies. I ordered 6 fruit trees over the years I feel they have large root systems and get to maturity quickly apples bearing in 2-3 years, cherries 4 years (trees where not feathered as you get from raintree but sprouted well). I've also ordered seeds, raspberries, daylilies, flower bulbs, and garden products. I would not put them at the same quality as Raintree but they are cheaper too. Will continue to order from them as they typically sell plants that grow well in my area (zone 5). Never really needed to return anything or call for failed items. Would highly recommend them.

The plant was packaged well and I followed the directions per the package for pre-soaking in water and planting. I would definitely order roses from them again. I think their prices are reasonable being not too cheap and yet not too expensive. The catalog is straightforward without being pretentious, like White Flower Farm. ( I have had good luck with them too, but I paid a lot more for the products)

I ordered a large quantity of plants from Jung for the 2002 spring-summer season. (in area of $600+) I was very pleased with their customer service and the quality of the plants. All were packaged well and those that we were able to adequately water did great! Due to an extrmely dry season and the fact that our water source is a well, we had to be conservative with our water, so, we can hardly blame the company for the failure of those particular plants.

I've only ordered from Jung's once, a mix of seeds and a single shrub, so my experience with them isn't exactly far-reaching. I usually place orders with well-regarded Washington nurseries like Forest Farm and Heronswood, so my expectations tend to be high. I wasn't expecting the largest or well-packed of live plants from Jung's, but I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's because I live only a state away, but the shrub was sent at exactly the right time, arrived healthy & moist and was of generous size with good roots. The seeds were fine, too. I will use them again.

I have not ordered any products from Jung in approximately a year; however, I can say that from all the catalog nurseries from which I have purchased in the past, I would say that Jung is one of the best in plant quality and price comparisons. I have purchased from White Flower Farm in Connecticut, which has some of the highest prices in the nation, albeit a good product, and what I have purchased from them performs no better that what I have purchased from Jung in the past. I highly recommend their bare root roses, especially the old fashion forms.

I live in the Madison, Wisconsin area and visit the Jung stores often. I could not be happier with the many bareroot or seed items I have purchased. Everyone at the stores has been helpful, the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin store employees in particular have gone above and beyond to help answer questions or solve dilemmas I have come accross.

My relatives in other states purchase through Jung mailorder and also have nothing but praise for the company.

I would encourage anyone to order or shop from the Jung store or catalog!

The Liatris is on backorder and I have sent an e-mail requesting a ship date. All plants came in bare root form, and appear to be of good quality. I am located in a part of Missouri that has received quite a bit of rain and will not be able to plant my new purchases until the rain lets up (I don't think these companies check the weather forecast).
