When I got mine it was about 2' tall with leaves twice the size of the common anthurium. After 5-6 years the plant is 5' x 5' with leaves about 3' x 2.5', and its sculptural shape and massive leather leaves stop everyone in their tracks. It lives in a protected pool cage under palm trees, and though I have moved it into a heated area in the winter in the past, it is too large to move now, so I will have to make a tent for it this winter!
According to one of the two botanists who named this species, the correct spelling is Anthurium faustomirandae.
Dr. Tom Cr...Read Moreoat of the Missouri Botanical Garden purposely shortened Faustino Miranda's name to "Fausto" for the purposes of naming this species. Dr. Croat responded to a question in this regard on the internet discussion group Aroid l with this comment to Derek Birch, editor of Aroideana, when Derek corrected the spelling of the name, "You are correct. I deliberately shorted the name to faustomirandae because Fausto is a shortened version of Faustino." There are many misspellings used on the internet but if you check any of the scientific plant sites such as TROPICOS or the International Plant Names Index you will find the spelling is correctly Anthurium faustomirandae.
mine grew so slowly it made me just hate it.... just my two cents...
