I grew mine in a heavily mulched area and be...Read Moretween the wood chip mulch and the upright form, these strawberries aren't hit quite so badly by snails and slugs as strawberries usually would be. The fruit is crush-resistant, another feature for agribusiness.

The taste is somewhat insipid. Better than supermarket strawberries because you *are* growing them at home, but far less tasty than other varieties. On the other hand, it has done well here in foggy windy Berkeley while other varieties have succumbed to fungal infections.

edit 6/8/07: I have to change my previous assessment from "neutral" to "positive". In previous years, my strawberries have been lucky enough to have escaped most slugs and snails. I guess they didn't like being on the wood chip mulch. However, now there is a buildup of leaves that cushions them from that and they have attacked my strawberries with a vengeance. However, Diamante is such a prolific producer that there are usually some strawberries left for me. The upright plant form makes it easier to see the slugs and pick them off. And the flavor is better than I remembered although not as good as I remember Seascape being.
