Pumpkin, Winter Squash 'Triamble'

I am growing Queensland Blue Pumpkin, Winter Sweet kabocha, and Triamble in the same bed/row as they are all C. maximas. Of the 3 Triamble took an extra 3-4 weeks to produce its first female flower (which was a few days ago, seeds were started 3 months ago). That flower is now aborting despite only being slightly larger than a pin head (and of course no where near opening). This is sad because we will only have another 1-3 weeks with temperatures low enough to allow fruit set on winter squashes, and it may not make another female in time.

I have also noticed that compared to the C. moschata and C. pepo pumpkins/winter squash, the C. maximas are much more sensitive to both cold and heat! Despite using row covers on our late cold snap (down to 40 overnight), the maximas all had some plant damage while the covered pepos were fine, and the uncovered moschatas (they were already trained onto the fence) had a little damage. As for heat, they get wilty in full sun if the temp is over about 84 degrees (F), while everything else is fine.

If you live in a place without late cold snaps, and without mid summer temps well over 90, this plant would probably do far better. If you have either of these temperature problems, you might want to reconsider planting this variety.
