This is very beautiful, fast growing, and hardy Eucalyptus. I have personally successfully grown the cultivar Eucalptus rubida ‘Cab Sav...Read More’ from Southern Eucs in Salt Lake City, Utah (zone 7b) for going on three years now. These hardy trees survived their first winter at 9 months old (about 5 feet or so tall) and it even got down to 11 degrees F with cold dry winds and ample snow. It literally didn’t even phase these little troopers, there wasn’t any burn or damage whatsoever to the leaves. I do have them up on a dry south facing hill behind my house, and it’s relatively sheltered from wind on all sides by some large bushy deciduous trees. It gets full sun all day, from sunrise to sunset so i’m sure that helps. They don’t even mind our alkaline clay soils here at all, but would probably benefit from some amendment i’m sure. All I can say is this Eucalypt has done amazing here in the desert southwest and has soared through our 100 degree summers (with ample water) and colder winters with virtually no issues. They’re both now almost 20 feet tall and have mostly adult leaves and a powdery white trunk. I’m in love with this tree! The fragrance is also a very strong and wonderful typical Eucalyptus smell, that you can smell from a few feet away in the summer and even further after it rains.
