That revealed why these have the reputation of being hard to transplant: the pieces of the root system weighed over 3.5 pounds, with the mass looking like a cross between a celery root bulb and baptisia roots, or like Medusa X Gordion Knot. I'll put the bigger pieces in the ground in a more suitable spot to see if they'll produce anything.
