One of the few I can persuade to set fruit in the winter. In midsummer, it doesn't pollinate well in heat, so saves its energy during high tomato season to give us fruit when no other tomato but Glory of Moldova has ripe fruit.
My cool-night scorching days summer climate is supreme at producing flavorless tomatoes, and every other "black" tomato I've tried has been mealy, mushy, and bland. Southern Night is tart in winter, good at all times if you like a sweet-acid balance (fans of supermarket paste tomatoes, stop right here) a little on the tart side. Flesh texture is very fine (never mealy), usually firm. And don't pre-judge Southern Night on the basis of "black heirloom" tomatoes found in supermarkets, either.
I've grown SN from my own collected seed during the years when SN disappeared from the catalogues and fruit of some plants is a little inconsistent with the original stock (though often even more delicious). When I started trying commercial seed from various sources I found that some produced fruit that was not consistent with other commercial seed (grown side by side in the same conditions) as to color and flavor. If you're disappointed, you might try another supplier next time.

She's a very nice tomato! Fairly mild, but sweet and very juicy. Just right for eating out of the garden on a hot summer's day!
