These tomatoes were brought from Krakow, Poland by my grandfather’s grandmother, and she taught him to grow them and preserve the seed....Read More Growing up, Grandpa always brought us “Polish tomatoes” but I didn’t realize how special they were until someone from Seed Savers Exchange got some seed from him back in the 90s.

They are the ultimate slices-bigger-than-your-hamburger slicer, but they’re so meaty that they make great sauce and salsas, too. The fruit is pink and streaked and they do tend to crack, so they are not a showpiece tomato, but what they lack in beauty they make up for in flavor.

I did not take an interest in gardening until I was an adult, and my grandfather, John Soldacki, was dying, so I was thankful that SSE preserved them. When he was in the hospital and I was just starting to garden, I went to talk tomatoes with him. I’ll treasure those memories, and I treasure these big, hearty tomatoes.

My earliest heirloom to ripen last year. We love it in salsas and pico. Not a lot of gel/seed pockets. In my top 5; last year was a bad tomato year, and this was my best harvest. You must try it.

Soldacki is a good tasting pink tomato that produces mid-late season. Yield is fairly high, and I didn't have too many problems with disease.

Great flavor! Late to mature.
