This plant can be easily confused with the Ohio Spiderwort, but its short size of 12 inches and preference for dry soil and full sun separates this from the more common species.
In my experience, the Tradescantia bracteata thrives in our poor clay soil. I put the bare roots in the ground last summer and kept the area clear of weeds. The individual plants have now multiplied many times over in just one growing season!
