The buds start out as thight dark green with a purple spot at the ends. Eventually, the flowers open to vivid orange-red; stigma purple. Although difficult to see, papillae are present on the lower portions of the flower petals.
The lily multiply by offsets, but the offsets usually takes several seasons to reach mature flowering size (longer than other asiatics).
The stem is very thick (up to 1" diameter) and hold up well in wind. This is a tall lily often exceeding 5-6 feet in height. Due to size and weight of umbel, it should be staked. Make sure to use a long enough stake, as staking only partially up the stem can cause it to break where the stem ends.
The bulbs remain relatively small for a lily this size.
Extremely nice lily. It's features are to a great extend explained by havng "Gran Paradiso" in its parentage.
