Weigela 'Rubidor'

A very old specimen of this plant was in my French garden when I bought it. I never paid too much attention to it and it declined with ne...Read Moreglect, but in the summer of 2011 I pruned it and cut out the dead wood and took cuttings.
Last year wasn't too bright as the winter had been horrendous, but his year it is really thriving and one of the cuttings has flowered - I'm delighted and think I will try to make a hedge with some more cuttings this year.

They are just starting to bloom (early May), and will soon be completely covered with deep-rose blooms which are the Hummingbirds' favorite in my gardens. The 3rd bush is planted near the North-west corner of my house and gets only late afternoon sun. It's also doing well, but is only about 5' tall (compared to about nearly 7' for the other 2.) The tag for these bushes (and the online information I found) stated that the foliage is "bright yellow", however all 3 of mine are plain green. This is probably due to the low-light conditions.

It is non-invasive and has the structure of a caning shrub, similar to forsythia in shape and size. Most insects leave it alone. The copious, beautiful red flowers flowers are very impressive for a shade dweller. I will be moving this plant to a permanent spot in my formal garden.
