We relocated the rose and we lined its new hole with poultry fencing (gentrified term for chicken wire) in January 2008. It didn't do anything that year - and I mean it - I truly couldn't tell if it sprouted any new leaves and it certainly didn't bloom. The good news is that in Jan2009 we did a very delicate pruning, and by 3/29/09 we had one very pretty rose and the signs of new canes, new eyes, etc.. Hopefully its over its early hardships.
