It must be pruned just like the regular Redosier, where big stems are cut to the ground, as they turn gray, and any dead, crossing, or damaged stems removed entirely. Must not be topped or sheared! Not for dry soils and does not do well with strong drought. Forms some ground suckers in moist or draining wet soils. Best used in a shrub group or border.

I wouldn't plant them near most traditional housecolors, because the combination probably won't look good. But as a stand-alone plant, specially in winter when the leaves are off, it's a sight to behold.
