(As with most roses, it may take three years before it's mature enough to rebloom continuously.) Fits in well with a garden of old garden roses.
Similar to its sibling Sweet Chariot, but with a larger habit.
Paul Barden says that this is a polyantha and not a shrub.
Minor issues: the plant is quite thorny, and the flowers shatter quickly.
I obtained this from the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden plant sale last fall. It was in a four inch pot and very tiny. I pretty much left ...Read Moreit in that pot all winter long with no care and open to the elements. This spring it has become much bigger. I have now planted it into a much larger pot. It has begun to bloom (Santa Clara, CA).
This rose is to be got for just its fragrance. It is almost English Rose like in looks, though miniature in form. Its unique colour and bunching flowers are an added bonus. I wish more garden centers would carry it. One small flower is enough to fill an entire car with its musk like scent.

Size: 3 - 4 ft. tall
Introduced: Moore, 1999
A small shrub with cascading habit, Vineyard Song canes droop from the weight of grape-like clusters of lavender-pink roses. The fragrance is spicy and intense - very unique. Zones 6-10.
From Paul Barden of The Uncommon Rose.biz:
Vineyard Song, Bred by Ralph Moore, California, 1999.
'Vineyard Song' is one of the newest shrub roses from Ralph Moore's breeding program. Introduced by Sequoia Nursery in 1999, this rose was bred from a cross of 'Little Chief' X 'Violette', which is also the breeding of the miniature, 'Sweet Chariot'.
I have grown 'Vineyard Song' for only one season so far, but already I can say that it is one of my favorite new shrubs. While it was still in a pot in the greehouse in June, even a cluster of five or six blooms would scent the whole greenhouse! It is not really a traditional rose fragrance, but I find it to be one of the most attractive scents I know. As you can see, the color is a lavender-pink hue, although it varies with different weather conditions. Often there are deep mauve blooms along with magenta and pink and pale lavender blooms at the same time all over the plant! It makes for a very attractive effect.
The shrub itself is of a cascading habit, or "fountain-like' for lack of a better description. It grows to about 3 feet tall, arching over in a graceful weeping form at maturity. Mine isn't that big yet, but I am looking forward to seeing it get to its mature shape! It appears to be completely disease free...at least it is for me so far.
