Newly acquired a 3 gallon palm about 3ft tall with huge fronds and LOTS of spines. Was a challenge to pot up.

Update: First one died pretty fast. Leaves dried up one by one until palm died. I thought maybe part of the reason was I got it late in the year during a cold spell, plus the seller sent it(and a bunch of other palms) bare root but not surrounded by anything to keep roots damp. All palms died.

So, tried again this year when temps warmer, different seller who ships bare root with roots kept damp by moss. THIS palm resides in master bath in bright, but no direct light and much higher humidity..yet, after a couple of weeks this palm, like the first has it's fronds drying up. Frustrating since when doing research on this species different sources say it can make a good container and/or house plant. If this one dies, won't try again. I have a Joey growing in same location and doing great.

Update again 9/19/16 bought some seeds from a palm talk member in Australia and all germinated quickly and I have 7 nice sized seedlings that have been doing well since March of this year. Seems to be the key, grow them as seedlings in the environment they will always be in.

Other palms from the Seychelles turned out to be surpsiginly hardy, like the Roscheria, which thrives in Sydney Australia, but no one has tried it yet in Southern California. There is a Verischfaltia growing in Port Macquerie Australia outside that is growing quite well, and in that area, you can not even grow a coconut palm.

In its native Seychelles, it can grow up to 80', high on steep, moutain slopes.

FYI- this palm has been tried hundreds of times by dozens of individuals along coastal southern California (as has Roscheria- even by myself, along with many dozens of other growers... no way!)- most with way more palm-growing experience than I have, and so far... no success.
