Rhododendron, Azalea 'Rosebud'

I have about 12 of these...Read More Rosebud Azaleas, in various spots from part sun to nearly full shade and most of them have done well. The ones getting the most sun have grown largest and flower most profusely, but even the ones in shade mange a half decent display of blooms, though the shrub remains small and less full.

My soil is generally acidic, but even the ones planted along a gravel path, which I believe causes the soil to be more alkaline, have done well, unlike a few of the other azaleas I've tried there. I've never fertilized any of them. Though, after at least 8 years of service from them, I feel it may be time to give them a helping hand and add some compost.

For those interested in a more detailed description of bloom color, I'd call it a clear pink, with little of the orange or purple tones. If anything, perhaps on the cool, bluish-pink side. To my eye, some of the more orangey pinks and reds clash with the the purples that are predominant in my garden. But, the pink of these rosebud azaleas seems to be a perfect complement.

They're great azaleas, but bloom later than most. Remember that when you're adding them to a mixed azalea bed.
