Echo the above comm...Read Moreent that it only blooms early in the spring and is just a large shrub for the rest of the time but when it flowers it is magnificent. If you can find the shrub by all means grow it.

I'm torn between positive and neutral because for all but about 2-3 weeks out of the year it is either in leaf or leafless during the Win...Read Moreter but when it blooms in the Spring, it is a lovely sight. I only feed it once a year and that is right after is has finished blooming then I feed it with Miracle-grow at 1 TBSP per gallon of water and only water it when it hasn't rained in a couple weeks, otherwise it is quite tolerant of cold, heat,and drought. I have found that mine has no insect problems and the hummingbirds are attracted to it.
