The small tree I planted at the same time shades it better now. I don't know if it just takes a long time to establish or it needs shade. It has survived some severe sub-zero temperatures the first two years, so that could have prevented blooming, too. I'm hoping that if I plant more, it will take off and spread.

I like the flowers but I love the seed pods! There's nothing else like them in the fall. All they seem to need is a little shade and even less attention.
