English Rose, Austin Rose 'Mortimer Sackler'

It is growing up a huge wrought iron arched gate in the front yard, and pretty soon I will need to secure these tall shoots somehow before they fall over into the sidewalk.The blooms appear all along these long almost thornless shoots on very short- 6 inch stems, about a foot apart. These flowers are for very short vases if you plan on bringing them inside, but the fragrance is delicious. Pale pink with a medium clear pink on the blooms, just perfect for a dark green or blue vase.

I have to say it's pretty sturdy and trouble free. I put it in the ground two years ago and have never watered or fed the thing. Not even a hint of black spot. Since it appears to like that spot I will put another Mortimer Sackler on the other side of the arch.

Rosa Mortimer Sackler is a great performer in my zone 7b garden. I love its fragrant flowers!

Dr. Mortimer Sackler was responsible for introducing the world to OxyContin, which is what I wished I had when I shovel-pruned it out of our garden!
