I have the 'quartziticola' (not sure of the spelling) variety since the marginal teeth and pigmentation are very red/pink.
If you dont have room for a tree aloe this is a nice alternative, providing dramatic shape and colour without engulfing your patio. I'd just like to add that more than my other aloes this guy seems to appreciate root room in the pot; it had stopped growing while mildly underpotted and once I put it in something larger it virtually doubled in size- the change was pretty dramatic so if yours is languishing, try potting on one size larger than you normally would.

A very attractive stemless deep blue-green aloe from Madagascar with incredible helmet-like yellow flowers in winter. Has sparse, thick and slightly knobby leaves that vary in color from turquoise to pink to deep maroon and everything in between- very colorful Madagascan species. Does not appear to sucker that I can tell.
After going through an usual cold snap here in So California (Jan 2007), I discovered this is one of the more cold hardy aloes, showing no damage at all in the mid to high 20s while hundreds of other aloe species were badly damaged or killed.
