February 2013....over winteres in a South facing window....one of the 2 branches looks to be rotting out. Did a little investigation, new branch looks to be coming out from underground....I'll keep it inside until nighttime temps stay above 50.....it was watered once over winter.
got it on a whim and since discovered it is extremely prone to rot, and has a pretty low tolerance for cold... guess I'm keeping it indoo...Read Morers this winter. Has large, red-brown furry stinky flowers with rounded lobes that attract flies. Hope I can keep mine alive long enough to at least see that happen. Odd/cool looking plant otherwise- from central AFrica
Now that I've had it about 2.5 years, I can say that this zone 9b-10a is definitely marginal for this plant. It has managed to survive two winters, but only by its amazing ability at receuperation after getting soft, dehydrated and rotting. Looks great all summer, but starts to look stressed by late fall, and winter rains are very tough on it... temps into the low 30s really hit it hard, and I am sure the first frost it experiences will be its last. The plant i have now is grown from a small fraction of the original plant I had, which rotted into multiple peices, and one just happened to reroot last year.
