I also have volunteers in a shady location which seem to fair well, but don't bloom as profusely as those in 6+ hours of sun. The plants I have are an Alba - which were all originally volunteers growing on the border of our heavily wooded property near a grassy, very sunny location with poor, rocky, but somewhat damp soil. I've enjoyed them as an addition to our flower garden for 5+ years now and hope they continue. I use the young tender greens in salads, but have yet to nosh on the fragrant flowers or their seeds. I couldn't imagine the garden without them now.

Sometimes the blooms take on a pinkish tinge that, I think, can be attributed to our cooler weather. It self-seeded in the bed, as well, & one of its volunteers produced blooms the first year.
