...Read More 1) Unlike most hostas, this sheds spent flowers cleanly. No deadheading necessary, just cut the scapes down when the show is over.

2) It is very vigorous, and unlike with many hostas, new foliage is produced in flushes throughout the growing season. You can divide a clump into tiny pieces any time the ground is workable, and it will produce new foliage the same season.

3) It leafs out much earlier than most hostas. A good companion for hiding the spent foliage of little early bulbs, but not for mid-season daffodils and the like.

4) The solid green foliage offers the eye much needed rest when a collection of variegated hostas begins to offer visual cacophony.

Within a couple of years the mid to dark green lance shape leaves had grown together into a dense mound about 18" tall by about 2 feet wide x 6' long . In August the mounds are topped by lovely lavendar blooms that hold their color into September.

Will hold up to "bright" areas where it gets some sun - mine gets morning and evening sun but it protected from the hot afternoon sun. It is a reliable hosta, appears quite slug resistant, and requires virtually no care other than to cut back the flower stalks in late September. This variety is quite old and was the premier landscaping hosta dating back to the 1800's in the U.S.
