Even though it has small, short lived flowers there is...Read More a constant succession of flowers from the small clusters of buds. The flowers are easily seen from some distance. So intense is the colour and the numbers of flowers during the main flowering season the vine is more or less completely covered in blue. Flowers open facing the sun in the early morning and are gone by midday. Like magic the next morning they make another mass appearance. On overcast rainy days the flowers don't open but generally appear in the dry, sunny season in the tropics. Worth remembering that the vine only flowers facing the sun and in the morning. So depending on the arc of the sun if your fence (support) is a boundary it may only flower on your neighbours side or the side you don't have a view, so position accordingly. Common and native to the West Indies, Central and South America, it was thought to be naturalised in isolated parts of Florida USA but has not found in the wild in Florida. Also naturalised in many parts of the tropics from India, Sri Lanka to Africa. Anyone know how to propagate I never have luck with seed and the stems are incredibly thin. Everyone says cuttings, might experiment ....... definitely want more. Layering does work and i have managed to propergate at least one low hanging part of a side caudex. Not many people know it, but it is a caudex grower. Three or four vines grows out of the end of a thickened caudex.
