Black Diamond 'Best Red'
Black Diamond 'Crimson Red'
Black Diamond 'Red Hot'
Black Diamond 'Blush'
Black Diamond 'Pure White'
Personally, the 'Pure White' is my favorite, as the contrast between the black foliage and white blooms is stunning.
The Black Diamonds are intermediate in their growth habit, or semi-dwarfs. They grow to approximately 10’ to 12’ tall and 8' wide. Gorgeous black foliage will emerge in early spring and persist until late fall on all 5 varieties in the series. The large, bright blooms will emerge in late spring and last through late fall. When I first got the plant, I noticed two tags. One said. l. Ebony Flame, and the other said Black Diamond Best Red. Some research led me to a notice that said this plant was introduced by Univ of MS. How and when Black Diamond comes into the picture, I don't know. There is supposed to be a white, a blush, a crimson red and the dark red.
UPDATE 2017: changed rating to positive as continues to grow well. it is not as full as it s/b b/c I'm training it as a standard.
I love my Ebony Flame, I also have the Ebony Glow . They make a beautiful combination.
