Iris germanica 'Alba' originates in a small region in southern France in an area around the Rhone, mainly to the west of the river. Like Linnaeus' purple wild germanica from Italy, it exhibits standards that are narrower than the falls, although standards are obovate and lack rigidity and can appear wider. Alba does not exhibit pbf 'purple based foliage' on the leaves like the wild purple germanica, although it can exhibit some small purple spots around its large yellow beard and hafts on the stems or filliments occasionally. "'Alba'' gets about 26 inches tall and blooms from Early season to ML season. Alba, is unusual, in that it is able to produce more than one flower per branch stem, the record of which is three flowers per one stem. ''Alba'' was not ''officially'' described in literature or journals or properly registered as a species iris until 2002 by Nigel Service when it was also detailed by him in ''signa#68 . Alba is currently available for sale at Iris City Gardens in TN. YOU CAN DISTINGUISH THIS 'GERMANICA ALBA' FROM 'ALBICANS' BECAUSE IT HAS YELLOW VEINING ON THE FALLS AND 'ALBICANS CEMETERY IRIS' DOES NOT. STANDARDS ALSO TALLER ON ALBA. http://www.iriscitygardens.com/images/tallbearded/igermanica...http://www.iriscitygardens.com/bearded1.html
