I planted my small, 1-gal shrubby tree at less than 2' high in 2019, and honestly, wasn't expecting much from it because Las Vegas seems to kill almost everything. The planting location was in a full / reflected sun location irrigated with 16 - 2gph drip emitters in a circle around the tree, so it doesn't need a lot of water to thrive in a middle/high desert, sandy-loam soil environment.
In late 2023, the tree is now well over 7' high, growing over 2'/year and doing very well - it is a fast grower once established. It has survived 70-80mph late winter dust storm winds with ease that knock down many trees, and looking great even in intense 115+ deg summer heat. Cold doesn't seem bother it - at least down to +15 deg, and it has taken a couple of heavy winter snow storms too.
It doesn't seem to flower as much as advertised, although it does produce abundant flowering pods that never seen to open. If you are looking for the yellow flowering pods to adorn the tree, it doesn't seem to do that very well - at least in Las Vegas, but otherwise, it does seem to be well-adapted to desert climates just fine with an abundance of medium-shade heart-shaped leaf-foliage.
The only negative side: it does need radical pruning to develop it into tree form. So, if you just plant it and forget it, you'll end up with a big messy shrub, as it tends grow wild in all directions. With training and pruning, you'll end up with a beautiful small tree.
It is also almost impossible to find in any nursery. I only know of one nursery that carries it - Australian Outback Plantation in Tonopah, AZ (Google it, and they will take special orders!). I bought my tree at an annual plant sale at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve, however, you can order it from Australian Outback Plantation - even though they don't list it on their website. This very beautiful small tree is worth trying out in any desert / semi-arid climate in Zone 9a or higher. Highly recommended!
